Owner description: Situated behind the busy Piazza Erbe, this central square is dominated by a Dante statue made in 1865 plus two buildings built by Palladio, the Palazzo della Raggione and the Loggia del Capitanato.

I enjoyed watching the wonderful life of Verona sitting in the Piazza. The square was surrounded by historic government buildings and beautiful palace facades. I shopped for fresh fruits in the open-air market and relaxed with a cup of fine Italian espresso in the elegant cafe. The lion column above the stalls was amazing and so as the gurgling fountain. The Piazza has the statue of Dante in the center. I spent time gazing at the architectural marvels surrounding the Piazza and the elegant Renaissance building with a Venetian touch. The evening was pleasant with a soft musical concert playing in the square. I had a quiet stroll in the square before enjoying a cocktail in one of the restaurants.

The statue of Dante is the attraction of this Piazza, but be sure to take the time to look at the facades of the buildings facing the Piazza. Each one is built in a different style structure, adding to the uniqueness of this Piazza.
It definitely gets very busy with tourists here, but there is a lot of room to spread out and view the beautiful buildings.

A easy get away from the crowds in central Verona, next to the Tower, street market and not far from the river

Just off the Piazza delle Erbe this has much more charm and a lot more peace. Two or three cafes to sit at and watch the world go by without all the hassle and tat of the "Romeo and Juliet" hype nearby. Great spot for lunch when visiting the city. When we were there a wedding was taking place - a real joy for everyone.

There are two restaurants here - a good, cheap one and a grossly over-priced not so good one (though highly recommended on this site). Don't bother with Caffe Dante - it's not particularly good.
The Piazza has what was the town hall on one side, and there's a huge clock tower that you can go up (in a lift) to a viewing platform. The view - day or night - is superb.
The old town hall also has a Roman and photographic museum - well worth a visit.
