In terms of its range of architecture and monuments this is clearly Verona's most interesting square, although perhaps Piazza dei Signori is more elegant. Well worth a walk around to inspect each building as well as to check out the fascinating variety of monuments. And of course one of the great places in Verona for coffee or lunch. I have to say though (and I'm sure I won't be the first to say it), I cannot understand why the Commune has approved all the market stalls. They really do ruin the views and the sense of space, and given that most of what they sell is tat it hardly fits in with the quality image that Verona otherwise easily communicates to tourists. But that aside, a lovely public space and for the historians amongst us the sense of the continuity from when it was the Roman Forum is very appealing.
