“Beautiful Verona — beautiful place to stay”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

If you are thinking of visiting Verona don't hesitate. It is a beautiful place. If you are thinking of booking Agli Abbiani, don't hesitate either. It is a beautiful place to stay. Located a nice walk from the old city, the owners Sylvia and Sergio make you feel like you are old friends visiting. The room was large and the place itself beautifully appointed with a stunning view of the city from the breakfast room. Speaking of which, breakfast is something else with Sylvia's generous serving of delicious homemade pastries, there is no better way to start the day. We would not hesitate for one second to stay here should we return to Verona.

went to verona and stayed for a night in this wonderdul bnb. silvia is such a nice person. we alighted in the wrong bus stop and we have kids with us. hence when we arrived at the bnb we were very tired. it was not the time for our check-in yet but silvia allowed us to check in right away after the room was cleaned. while waiting she served us fresh fruits and water and cookies for my kids. too bad that she had something to do the following morning. her daughter and i think mother took care of preparing the great breakfast for us. it was a lot and coffee was great. had a little problem though we had to go to the train station because i cannot access my mail coz there is no wifi and silvia was out and couldnt access her computer. her daughter was very apologetic though. its a good location because its near the center and everything is walking distance. good for families with children because there is a nearby playground. Likewise silvia is very hospitable and nice to my kids. I highly recommend this bnb. when im back in verona ill book at agli abbaini. Ciao Silvia!

I stayed at the Agi Abbaini with my daughter in July. What a delightful visit, Silvia seems to really love looking after her guests, the breakfast is very substantial, fresh fruit, yoghurt, eggs, pastries and something special that she bakes. One morning we arrived in the breakfast room, (which is a charming small room with a balcony overlooking a stunning view of Verona) to be served with apple strudel straight from the oven. Sylvia is a warm, very friendly person who has a lovely positive outlook. Our room was a good size with a comfortable bed and double windows overlooking lovely views again. Air conditioning was included. Every morning our room was serviced and was very clean. Although the bathroom was across the passage this was not a problem, the bathroom itself was huge
I am an artist and was interested to see that Silvia has a good collection of art and is an art lover herself.
I look forward to my next visit to wonderful Verona and will certainly stay at The Agli Abbaini.

I chose this accommodation from the excellent reviews on the internet. The location was good, just outside the city, and within easy walking distance of all the sights and good restaurants. Our room was well appointed, with wonderful views, and the bathroom was of a good size. However, the bed, though comfortable, was very creaky . The closet area had a paper thin wall to the next room and unless the door was closed we could clearly hear every word other guests said. (We were advised by the owners to keep the door closed.)

There was just something missing from this accommodation. This was a large flat with three bedrooms (two ensuite and one with a sole-use bathroom across the hallway) and it became apparent that the owners (who had four children) did not live in it as there was no other accommodation. I heard the owner arrive early each morning to prepare breakfast. The flat was therefore always unlit, gloomy and unwelcoming whenever we came back at whatever time of the day or evening.

We were always offered sufficient quantity to eat at breakfast and this was never in question. However, the food was just adequate and it appeared to me that there to be only one "home-made" item in the five days we spent there; patisserie appeared to be bought in and what wasn't eaten one day appeared to be served up again the next day. Only two slices (one each) of warm salami were offered to us on our first morning with fresh bread, Italian toasts, yoghurt, prepared fresh fruit and cakes. Thereafter the bread was "dried/toasted" and served again. However, Sylvia did serve us a very good cooked breakfast on our last morning (we were the only guests) and was helpful in ordering us a taxi to the station. I add that I was surprised on our fourth morning that she left half way through our breakfast to go out for the day.

Bathroom products, all the same, were put in different types of containers, though this didn't bother us as we always take our own. The shampoo was watered down. The bed linen and towels were changed once during our stay.

Overall, we didn't allow the experience of this accommodation to spoil our visit to the fabulous city of Verona with its many wonderful sights, including Carmen at the Arena, wonderful churches and trips out to Lake Garda. Agli Abbaini is a 'just okay' accommodation (expensive at 125 euros per night) and we would not have chosen it had we known that it was a serviced apartment rather than a real bed and breakfast. Given a few more euros spent on breakfast, a little more care, attention and hospitality, this rating would have been higher.

Room Tip: The one at the front with views over Verona.
