Tried the previous night to get a table here but they were booked up. Booked up again the following day but we got a table later in the evening. The stuffed zucchini flowers were yum. Lasagne and Sea Bass were goid but not spectacular. Desserts were perfection. Service was very welcoming. I'd certainly recommend and go back.

“Best meal in Venice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

People say the food in Venice is not great, and, from our experience, for the most part, that is true. With one BIG exception - the Osteria Oliva Nera. We had one of our favorite meals in Italy there. The Osteria is run by a husband and wife team, both excellently chefs. They make everything, including the desserts and the housemade limoncello. Reservations are a must, since it is a very small restaurant and it has a loyal following, with good reason. If you are going to Venice, don't skip this restaurant.

“Really good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

Based on trip advisor reviews, visited the olivia nera and we weren't dissapointed! Family run restaurant of quality, from the food to the service! The owner came over and explained the menu in detail giving suggestions. Based on these we ordered the flowers (very good) and for main course i had the wild boar past and my partner had the bigoli or anchovie pasta accompanied by a local white wine. Desert was a most delicious tiramisu. All of it was really good and i would definitely go back! The athmosphere was also really nice! Top marks Olivia Nera!

“The host are great ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

When you step inside of the dining room you feel to be at home. What a welcome and great hostess. . I ve been waiting 2 years before to come back and get a table. Sublime food. Be ready to spend a bit more money as it is not cheap but please do it once. Better to come when it is the trattoria open only in winter time but please book early.

“A special place for a special day.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

Celebrating a 'substantial anniversary' called for somewhere special. Venice as the city was easy, the right restaurant needed advice and we got the right advice! After a bit of a struggle to find this restaurant tucked away in Castello the search proved to be worth it! The couple who have run it since 2000 and their Chinese waitress are a great little team. The choice included fish and meat - we went for the sea bass and the pork and then the choice of desserts was beautifully drawn by the owner's wife with each petal of a flower representing different dishes. We went for the tira misu 'the reason I married my husband,' she told us. We could see why. Not cheap but still good value as it is friendly, informal and fun. Enough locals and regulars popped in for us to be unable to tell the difference as they were all warmly greeted.
