“Nice way to start our Italian holiday”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

We chose UNA Venezia for our late October stay based on Trip Advisor reviews. Our flight landed at Marco Polo in the morning and we took the Alligaluna Blue Line to Fondamente Nuove. We had seen that the "acqua alta" had caused St. Mark's Square to flood two days before our arrival, so we phoned the hotel the morning of our flight from the US to ask if we could roll our suitcases to the hotel from the dock without going through water, and were assured we could. It's not more than 10 minutes from the Blue Line stop to the hotel, but there are two unavoidable bridges with 8-10 steps each way up and down before reaching the hotel door. It may be possible to get to the hotel from the Ca Doro vaporetto stop with just one bridge to cross, but taking the Alligaluna is more convenient from the airport.

The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay of just two nights, and made sound recommendations for restaurants that were not tourist traps. The breakfast room/bar was a real treat in this expensive city. We enjoyed hearty hot breakfasts each morning, with a nice variety of foods; coffee and cappuccino were made promptly by a friendly attendant. In the late afternoons we enjoyed finger food sandwiches as well as prosecco and white wine served without limit. Both were included in the room rate. Because we booked directly from the UNA website, we had internet access included in the room rate. Other reviewers have noted that the wifi is expensive, but by booking direct (at no greater cost) the internet charge can be avoided.

One afternoon we enjoyed a very friendly chat with Paolo, the General Manager of the hotel, who took time to speak with us about the city where he and his family live. It was good to hear from a proud Venetian about the advantages of life in this amazing city. He is busy as you would expect the GM to be, but if you can catch him when he has a few minutes you'll enjoy hearing what he has to say.

The room was very pretty, with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom. It had a balcony overlooking the Ruga Do Pozzi, with a view to the small canal along the side of the building. We asked for a room on the second floor since the stairway leads directly from it to the lobby level. We knew from other reviews that rooms on the first floor can be reached only via the lift.

We liked the location just a short walk from the Strada Nova, but far enough away from St. Marks Square that we never felt part of the tourist throngs. When we took a gondola ride from the Rialto Bridge, the gondolier soon brought us into the Cannaregio and we enjoyed seeing "our" neighborhood from that new perspective.

We would stay here again on a future trip to Venice.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor have direct stairway access to and from the lobby; rooms on the first floo...

I unexpectedly had to stay one extra night in Venice at the end of a weekend trip this past June because I had to attend another appointment. The hotel I wanted to stay in was sold out so I went online with Booking.com and decided upon the UNA Hotel which was in the vicinity of where I had already been staying.

I found myself choosing UNA’s “classic single room”. The cost for this room was a total of $140 Euros, VAT included. This hotel is also located in Il Sestière di Cannaregio. I had arrived early so the room was not ready. That was no problem, as I had to go to my appointment so I left my suitcase with the front desk. When I came back, I was given the electronic key pass for the room. The room was located on the same floor as the front desk reception area and although small was cozy, it was after all a “single” room. The window looked out onto the piazza area and I kept the drapes shut because people were constantly walking by so they could see right in. The window had the protective bars on it though. There was a desk with chair, flat screen TV, wardrobe, comfortable bed and bathroom with shower. The shower was not in a separate compartment but in the middle of the bathroom. You could pull the shower curtain around the rod and the water would go down a drain in the floor. The room came with slippers, hair dryer, toiletries, kettle with tea and coffee preparations as well as cups and saucers and actual glasses (not plastic as I have had in other hotels). There was a little mini bar with beverages and snacks.

Between the hours of 4:30 – 22:30 the restaurant cafe offers a complimentary buffet which displayed a selection of tea, coffee, fruit juice, fresh fruit, cakes, pastries and between 18:00 – 22:30 they have complimentary aperitif with local white wine, Prosecco, cold drinks and finger food, which I thought was a nice touch. This hotel is located a few blocks in from the Strada Nuova and is not difficult to find. There are several restaurants, Osteria’s and even a McDonald’s in the area. You will find yourself walking down a couple of those mini streets to get to Strada Nuova where I am sure you will find a photo op around every corner! Restaurants range from expensive to inexpensive and most post their menus so you can see the prices. If you walk down over two of the mini bridges from the Strada Nuova (in the direction of the train station), you can find pizza to go starting at 2 Euros a slice and some of the pizza places sell kabobs. Billa grocery store is within walking distance to the hotel. There are also little bars along the Strada Nuova where you can sit inside or outside for aperitivo and have a spritz and some nibbles. A multitude of shops with clothing, purses, bath products, chocolate, sunglasses, lingerie can be found as well as a pharmacy and a Tobacco shop.

If you have a laptop with you the hotel offers ADSL/Wi-Fi at a cost. I think I paid 16-18 Euros for 24 hours, which I thought was a little expensive. The connection was fast and reliable though. The hotel room cost included a free breakfast held in the hotel cafe between 7:30 and 11:00 a.m. It was delicious! They had eggs, bacon, yogurts, cereals, bread, buns and even fresh smoked salmon/lox. The reception/front desk is open 24 hours.

Sestiere di San Marco is about a 15 minute walk or, you have the option of catching the no. 1 vaporetto from the Ca’ D’Oro stop which will take you to the Rialto Market across the canal, or 2 stops further down to the Rialto bridge. You can stay on the No. 1 vaporetto and go further down the canal to San Marco. You can even walk to the Fondamente Nuove and catch a vaporetto to Murano or Burano island. I also want to mention again, that there is a special gondola that goes from Campo Santa Sofia across the Grand Canal to the Rialto fish market and San Polo area. The cost is only 50 eurocents. I’ve taken it!

As for the amenities, the TV offered a variety of channels. There are phones in the rooms but because I had my cell phone I did not use the in room phone.

The hotel staff were courteous.

I thought the price was a little high for a single room especially after paying less for a larger room in another 4 star hotel. The room itself seemed to be located next to a service entrance so the door slammed a lot. But, overall my experience was good. I was comfortable and felt safe.

The hotel was pretty good overall. It was our first stop in Italy.

Pros:
- really comfy bed.
- well located (just a walk from the vaporeto)
- Very clean
- waling distance from Grom ("THE" best ice cream parlour in Venice)

Cons:
- internet was not included on the room price (and it was super expensive)
- breakfast was always super crowded with not enough staff to serve the guests
- the shower made a little bit of a mess

Good place to stay in Venice!

Dear Tinasmv,

we deeply appreciate your opinions . It's important to receive either positive or negative feedback in order to improve our standard. This allow us get more and more customer oriented.

Being our Hotel a noble Palazzo Veneziano , all the public spaces resemble the living area of this ancient residence with moderate spaces. From your feedback it seems that your stay took place in October a month where we were fully booked almost everyday. We are sorry if you found the breakfast room crowded due to the unexpected number of people having breakfast at the same time.
As for the shower we hope you signalled the inconvenience to the reception desk in order to take care of the matter. We have checked it and it seems to be working properly.
Looking forward the pleasure to welcoming you at our Hotel once again, please have our

The staff, particularly Danielle and Selvino, helped enormously; very gracious. Our room was upgraded because we arrived early. Accomodations were perfect, food very good. A short walk from the Fundamente Nuovo stop, only two stops from the airport. In the Cannareggio section, out of the touist haunts and close to the local food. The tourist food traps offer terrible food. Eat where the locals eat and the staff can help you with that. Would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Rugo do Pozzi can be noisy at night. Air conditioning is challenged in late Sept when...

We stayed at UNA Hotel Venezia at the tail end of a multi-stop trip around Europe. We arrived in the morning after an overnight train ride. The gentleman who checked us in was kind enough to give us a room immediately and even upgraded us to a canal view room.

The hotel is located in a very quiet part of the city. We enjoyed the location because it allowed us to escape the crowded Venetian alleyways after a long day of sightseeing. However, this also means it can be difficult to find on the first try. Make sure to study a map before you arrive. The Vaporetto will get you close, but you'll need to walk a bit as well.

The room was very nice - bed was super comfortable, a huge storage area, lovely Venetian decor. The only problem with our room was our the shower. There was no formal enclosure for the shower, just a floor length wrap around curtain. It was impossible to shower without soaking half of the bathroom. It's possible that our shower was set up this way because we were on the first floor of the hotel and it was for accessibility reasons, but I'm not sure.

Despite the strange shower setup, we were thrilled with our room and wouldn't hesitate to stay there should we ever find ourselves in Venice again.

Following a delayed flight we arrived at the Una Hotel late and tired. Stepping into the hotel's elegant interior, we received a warm welcome, and began to relax. We were then informed that our room had been upgraded! Our room was well appointed and comfortable and throughout our 5 night stay the staff were friendly and attentive. The complimentary light buffet was a very pleasant extra. When we informed the staff that due to an early departure on our final morning we would be too early for breakfast they kindly provided us with a take-away breakfast bag. In the event of a future visit we would have no hesitation in staying at this hotel again.

When the only thing you can find to fault with a hotel is that there isn't a waste bin in the room and you have to use the one in the bathroom, you just know that you're in a very good hotel.
We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2012 and without doubt it is the second best hotel we have stayed in. (The best being Vil Uyana in Sri Lanka).
It is a small but warm and friendly hotel, situated a few minutes from one of the main thoroughfares in Venice. They do not serve evening meals which allows travellers to explore Venetians restaurants without feeling obliged to patronise the hotel. The breakfast is excellent with a wide choice of fare available for all tastes, including Gluten-free cereals, which I haven't seen anywhere else.
The room we had was extremely well appointed, there was a pillow menu as well so you could get a pillow virtually the same as you use at home. The room was very quiet too, with no outside noise to disturb you after a hard day tramping around Venice.
In the afternoons there is a complimentary buffet for the weary walker, with tea, coffee, wine, juice, cakes, spirits all available. I have only ever seen this with an all-inclusive package, and it's very welcome here.

Venice itself is a very expensive place to visit and it costs a lot to eat out, even at lunchtime. We found that one of the best places to eat at lunch was in one of the museum cafes where a reasonably priced meal could be had for around €20 for two people. You don't have to pay to go in some of them either as the cafes are before the ticket desk, the Correr for example.

Pizzas are probably the least expensive but most satisfying meals available in Venice and they are excellent.
