The host met us at the wharf and kindly helped with the luggage. The apartment has great views over the canal and the balcony adds to the Venetian atmosphere. We were a little apprehensive about noise levels at night however this was unfounded.
The bed was comfortable with good quality linen. Some fine restaurants in the vicinity, as long as you keep away from the busy tourist spots.
We were allowed to drop off our luggage early however we were concerned that five hours later the apartment had not been cleaned from the previous guests. Phone calls to the management as well as an email went unanswered and we were concerned that no cleaning would take place. A lovely cleaning lady eventually turned up, most apologetic about her lateness which was caused by having to spend an undue amount of time cleaning another apartment. Greater communication from the management would have been appreciated.
We booked this apartment through Tripadviser/Flipkey. All correspondence was via email with Luca and then our arrival managed via Club House Venezia (who we assume are a property management company?).
We decided to arrive by private taxi and agreed to meet the CHV representative on our small canal Fondamenta di san Lorenzo, and there he was waiting for us (Denis).
Denis showed us up one flight of stairs to our apartment. The apartment is newly fitted out and entirely meets the description and photographs given on the website. All was explained to us with instructions of where our local supermarket was – a mere 5minute walk to supermarket ‘Simply’. This was a big supermarket for Venice and had everything – fresh fruit and vegetables, dried goods, wines and liquors, fresh bread and an excellent deli counter. It has everything to meet your needs. (In fact, we ate in twice in the apartment such was the quality of the deli.). The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery, pans, wine glasses etc.
The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, the water hot, and the wifi good and strong. The location was perfect – a 5 minute walk south to Vaporetto stop San Zaccaria and a 10 minute walk north to Vaporetto Ospedale.
It was very pleasant looking out of our balcony over the Rio San Lorenzo canal, as it always had something of interest to watch and of course, very peaceful in the evening. That said, and through no fault of the owners of our apartment, we did unfortunately have rather noisy neighbours. For 2 nights running, on the floor above one bedroom, the neighbours seemed to walk up and down very late at night – until 1am! The noise carried down to us quite distinctly and unfortunately kept us awake. We also had a flood of water from the same apartment, luckily only coming through to one of our bathrooms – which we reported to our owners. I am sure this has been rectified now. As we say, the noise and flood is through no fault of the owners.
Despite this, we enjoyed our stay and can recommend the apartment to others.
