We have rented apartments in many major European cities, so when we planned to be in Venice for a few nights on our Italian trip, we searched for another one. We wanted to stay in the Santa Croce area and this apartment filled the bill. In reality, the experience was mixed. The good factors were the location, the responsiveness of the owner and the management company and the accuracy of the listing. The location was only a couple minutes walk from a vaporetto stop, the Grand Canal was steps away and a 5 minute walk over a bridge to the Santa Lucia train station. All of those are very important. When you rent an apartment or home, based on pictures and some reviews, it's comforting to know the people you deal with are responsive. The apartment was as pictured in the listing. We had no complaints about any of these important things.
On the not-so good side was a lack of cleanliness of the apartment. After the greeter left and we looked around, it appeared the pre-arrival cleaning had been done haphazardly, at best. We did have clean linens and towels, but the kitchen counter was dirty and it appeared the floor had not been swept. The bathroom also needed some cleaning before we were comfortable with it. We purchased cleaning products (the supplied products were extremely diluted) and we cleaned the bathroom and kitchen ourselves. It was a first for us after more than 10 apartment rentals in Europe. There was much to like about this rental, but the inadequate cleaning was a significant negative, in our view.
