There are so many restaurants to choose from but this one is worth a visit. They offer local specialities and their Fegato Veneziana was particularly good with a reasonably priced valpolicella from a vineyard on the mainland nearby and an excellent and generous tiramisu to follow. Friendly efficient service and good value.

Our friendly hotelier Sergio recommended this place. We were not disappointed. In 10 years Sergio has never disappointed us. Food was fantastic, at a reasonable price. Pesce, pesce e piu pesce. Spaghetti con cozze e vongole per primo. Un fritp misto dal mare per secondo. Una bottiglia di prosecco - perfetto,
Service was friendly and attentive.
Very, very nice.

We chose this restaurant as it looked busy ( usually a good sign )
I ordered a steak and my friend had veal, it was good quality food but we both felt that the meat portions were small for the cost
The chips were wonderful & very hot which made all the difference
The wine was good & a good quality wine was served by the glass
The puddings were amazing with tiramisu to die for
Waiters efficient but not over friendly

Having failed to find our target restaurant, and being against the clock before a theatre visit, we somewhat desperately made Al Calice our eating station. Good humoured waiters, a pleasant environment, a good menu. Excellent vegetable and salad side-dishes distinguished it.
recommended if you find yourself restricted to the San Marco district

We used TripAdvisor to find a good but reasonably priced restaurant close to St Marks Square as we had tickets to a concert nearby. Al Calice did not disappoint. One thing that other reviewers have not mentioned is how attractive it is, old fashioned style with a first floor gallery and beautiful decorated lampshades, mirrored walls and ceiling giving an impression of space - and NO horrible distracting pop music being played! Friendly welcome and my coat taken to hang up (again surprising how often in Venice I was expected to hang it over my seat!) We both had fritto misto with mixed vegetables, the former fresh and delicious (though not as good as Sempione), the latter including spinach carrots and potatoes as well as the usual aubergine peppers and courgettes. Excellent Tiramisu to follow, and with a good half bottle of house wine, mineral water, coffee was less than 100 EURO for two before service. I am sorry that some people found this overpriced, maybe ordering fish "by weight" puts the price up but we did not feel ripped off at all
