we found the food here to be very average. not bad but nothing special. our meal was just over €110 for 2 mains , 2 starters and a bottle of wine. it was not as good as other meals we had in venice for less. Service was good and staff friendly but they didnt tell us the specials and we only found out they had them when given to another table but by this time we had ordered which was a pity as they may have been better then what we had ordered. my main of fried scampi was served with nothing. just a plate of fried scampi which was quiet boring to say the least.

This is a quaint little restaurant in a quiet area. The service was very friendly and the food was wonderful. The calamari was light and tender. The ravioli filled with pumpkin in a butter and truffle sauce was sensational. As is usual in Italy the local house wine was excellent.

Vini da Gigio is quasi-hidden down a side street and took us a while to find. It's a small and somewhat cramped restaurant (it feels like they've packed in two or three more tables then they really have room for) which is clearly popular, as they were full to the brim and turned folks away. We got there a few minutes early for a 7pm reservation, which was good because we got our pick of tables. If you do go, get there early. The service was good (our waiter was very helpful), but the food was disappointing. I had a caprese salad (which was excellent), but followed it with a sliced tuna steak (which was tasteless). My wife had turbot, which was equally mediocre. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and we really wanted to like it more, but the food just didn't cut it.

We chose this place based on a recommendation from our hotel owner in Monterosso and we're very glad we went here. The food was great and the service was just as good. It was a small little place and everything kind of took some time but by this time we were a week into our Italy trip and were used to that. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and could understand us even though we didn't speak any Italian. It was a nice romantic dinner in a very cool city. I would suggest it to anyone going to Venice. And the fact that we actually went there says something too as most of the places we chose for dinners on our honeymoon were spontaneous decisions and we didn't use suggestions or recommendations too often.

We came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon - it seemed to be one of the few decent places open on Sundays.

I started with a delicious salad caprese followed by the Venetian speciality of liver with polenta. My husband had a cheese and polenta dish followed by a plate of spaghetti cacio al pepe. For dessert we shared an almond semifreddo. We paired with a couple of wines from the Veneto.

It was a great lunch in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate to return.
