Description: La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

This was our hotel restaurant and we ate lunch here when we first arrived. The food was good - not the best I've ever had but good, albeit pretty pricey.

But the ambience, good lord! So quaint and picturesque and a perfect first Venice dining experience. Looks like an old pirate bar (I think it might be). Go for lunch or just for a drink in the bar area - you won't be disappointed, but your wallet will take kick.

Service is white glove and impeccable.

I admit that it was the window that enticed us into this great restaurant. The Michelin rating was well-placed, the menu looked fabulous, and looking inside clinched it. What a great room!
We entered through a small cafe, and into the dining room. The dark woods, candles, and red fabrics, made it warm and inviting, and the different languages spoken all around us made us aware of their international clientele. The staff, especially the Maitre'D, seemed to know most of them as regulars.
We started our meal with sea bass tartare and delicious creamy celery soup. The turbot with potatoes and stuffed cuttlefish were fabulous, and the wine, a sauvignon, was excellent. We ate leisurely, and although we were the last customers in the dining room, we were not rushed. In fact, we were given cookies! The Maitre'D took a picture for us, and chatted with us until it was time to go.
We only had one meal in Venice, but we'd do this one all over again! What a great meal and memory.

Was September and we decided to have a nice birthday dinner.
I've read about the restaurant at the Michelin guide.
The food was great, the service incredible, the terrace wonderful.
The personnel knew exactly what local wine to recommend.
Was perfect!

Had lunch here. Beautiful room with a nautical theme, a bit dark and romantic. A bit formal with formally dressed waiters, but not overly stiff. The wife had a wonderful (and huge) filet mignon in porcini sauce and I had very good pasta in a porcini sauce. Huge portions, reasonable wine prices. Great place for a special, romantic meal.

Recommended by a local as possibly being one of the few restaurants in the area as being true to their roots. Whatever the roots, the food was truly enjoyable and the service was friendly.
