Description: La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

This is. What we hoped for from Italy's food offerings. It may be a little pricey but it is still great value if you appreciate fine dining

We booked via e-mail from home and we had a lovely response back.
The moment we arrived we knew we were in a special restaurant, the courtyard was so peaceful and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
The staff were most welcoming and the food was beautiful plus the service was second to none!
We would definitely recommend a visit!

I already felt spoilt following a trip on the Orient Express but the hospitality shown by Nicolas and his team only enhanced my trip to Venice.

A great venue, ok we didn't manage to get a seat straight away but we only waited a few moments before being shown a table in the court yard area. We didn't even look for an alternate venue the second night and returned to La Caravella. If the service had been great the first evening it was exceptional the second time and we felt like they really looked forward to our feedback and gave us different foods to try inbetween courses.

Nicholas had an excellent knowledge when it came to recommending wines to drink, which only enhanced the experience.

I would go back in an instance.

We stumbled upon La Caravella by chance and saw that the courtyard was brimming with customers. We were told we would have a small wait so we decided to do so as it was obviously popular. We waited only five minutes and were guided to our table. Ordered a very reasonable white wine and ate two lovely courses, the service was very friendly and seamless. The food was so good that we returned the following night after a day of sightseeing and shopping. We were welcomed back like regulars and shown to a lovely table. The Sommelier helped us with our wine choice and we opted for an organic white wine which was really really good. His knowledge of wine was fantastic and he even explained all about organic wines which personally I would have always steered clear of.
I had a huge fruits der mer which included hot samplers such as scallops cooked in a cheese sauce with a hint of brandy, deep fried prawns and whitebait, octopus in a spicy tomato sauce and lots of other delicious items. I really cannot recommend this place enough, the staff were so willing to answer questions and share their knowledge, it really was the icing on the cake to our trip to Venice. I will definately go back next time I am there!

Went here for dessert and coffee after a disappointing experience elsewhere. I've often seen diners looking for just this getting short treatment in cities like Venice, but not so here! It might have helped that I began by apologising for not wanting a full meal, but we were immediately well treated and the maitre d' was very forthcoming with recommendations for a dessert wine. Had a sensational tiramisu and an excellent soufflé, served with all the appropriate pomp!

The location was a reasonably sized courtyard under a large awning. Peaceful and very well presented. The price on the high side, but was also perfectly reasonable.

We then went back two days later for lunch. We were immediately recognised and acknowledged and enjoyed just as good an experience as the first. Excellent food, especially the desserts!
