Description: La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

Recommended by a friend of a friend. Made reservations for our last night. Great restaurant to finish on.

The Maitre'd was very skilled and polished. Seemed to shift effortlessly between discussing the menu and requests in Italian, English and French and did so each time with charm, in our experience.

We both had the scampi and sardine saor as a starter and both wanted the porcini risotto but felt that was a bit "lame" to have the same main as well, so I had the fillet with porcini sauce. Fantastic choice! Little bigger than other dishes I've had in Venice but enjoyed every mouthful. No space to try a dessert but my wife loved her's!

Good choices of wine by the glass. Caffe dopio a bit pricey at €18 (same overall cost as a glass of prosecco and a Spritz bitter) but won't let this detract from a surefooted restaurant whose staff appear at exactly the right time to top up your water, shortly after you finish and the whole thing is crowned by a chef well-aided by his staff at generating an evening of dining pleasure.

The waiter forgot that we made a special request to use different pasta, or chef refused, we're not sure, but the food was good anyway. Porcini mushroom starter is big portions for a light eater, but it's quite meaty and raw/juicy. Sauvignon wine was very tasty and moorish! Crab pasta is a must have dish, along side the semi freddo dessert. This dessert is to die for! We only had 4 mains, 2 desserts, bottle of wine and water for 230 euros. Not bad for a posh restaurant on a very oh so posh street. I would definatelt go back just to have the crab noodles and semi freddo!!

My husband and I thouroughly enjoyed our wine dinner at La Caravella. We dined in their outdoor courtyard. The dinner consisted of a glass of preseco followed by a four course meal. Each course was paired with a glass of local wine chosen by a professional somilier. The menu choices were varied and the food was excellent. I truly enjoyed my menu choices: veal carpaccio with spices, bigoli pasta with duck sauce, sliced beef entrecote with grilled vegetables, and lemon ice cream mousse with berries. Everything was excellent and at 70 euros per person is was a very good value in cosmopolitan Venice.

The restaurant was recommended by the owner of the terrific hotel that we were staying at - Ca Pisani. She did warn us that she was a little biased since her family also owned the restaurant! We made a dinner reservation and we were not disappointed. The food was marvelous, the service terrifc - attentive and proper but not overpowering. We sat in the outdoor courtyard which was most delightful. While the prices tend towards the higher end, they are not unreasonable and it is definitely worth paying the little extra for the quality and excellent service. Would most definitlely go again and recommend it to anyone.

Located in the heart of posh San Marco, this restaurant is decked out like a ship with lovely dark wood and candlelit tables. But what stands out most was the food. We really enjoyed everything from the seafood starters, to the steak with porcini mushrooms and spdier crab spaghetti. Wonderful stuff served by attentive waiters. It cost slightly more than other restaurants but we felt it was good value for the location and quality of the food and wine.
