Just a great feeling of having arrived in Italy, eating lunch here on our first day, still a little jet-lagged. The concierge recommended this place to us, and it has its share of tourists. At the same time, it's small, fairly communal seating, and great food. Great value, too. Worth a lunch or dinner when you just want to have some good food without a super-high tab.

It was fun every night we ate there, weather the staff interaction with guests or the staff interaction with the Gondoliers as they went by, it was always fun. The food and house wine are as good as you get anywhere. ( Try the seafood Lasagne!)

Absolutely loved this place. Tried both the pasta and the fish dish that was recommended by the waiter. Both were great. They offered us a welcome drink while waiting for a table which was a nice gesture. Also, we forgot our camera bag at the restaurant and when we returned for it the next day we noticed that they put it in a safe place waiting for our return. Although a bit expensive (hey… everything is overpriced in Venice)… it is well worth it because you feel that you are not being ripped off as a tourist.
We loved the fact that there were many locals eating there and many gondoliers as well.

I do not recommend this restaurant. My gnocchi was mushy and the crab sauce tasted sour with no crab to be found. We never did find a good restaurant in Venice. My advice, when in Venice, stick with pizza. You can't go too far wrong ordering pizza. We were seated at a table, the asked to move a few minutes later.

People say do not eat anywhere within 200 metres of St Mark’s Square in Venice because you will get ripped off for poor food.

OK Rivetta is probably a little more than 200 metres, but it is right in the main tourist throng to the East of San Marco. It is hard to find as it is a little hidden away down the side of a bridge over one of the canals and just has a small house sized window and door, rather than having the usual tables outside.

However, once inside what a treat, yes you will probably have to wait for a table. Well in fact don’t expect a table all to yourselves, you will probably have to share. As you are waiting you are likely to be passed a drink of frizzante vin rosso to keep you going.

This is one of those fantastic, really frenetically busy little bistro environments. The food is local and fresh as can be, fish from the lagoon and so on. Our waiter could easily have been a professional comedian/entertainer as well as being an amazingly hard working professional waiter. The server was quick, efficiently but with a cheeky (multi lingual) twist.

The food was very good, the wine too. For its location very reasonably priced.

A real treat, this will be the first place I re-visit when I return to Venice.
