The room (no. 10) was darkly gorgeous, with a good firm bed, crisp cotton bedding, glamorous velvet chairs and curtains and a lovely bathroom. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and we felt that nothing was too much trouble, but that we were also left alone as much as we wanted. Loved the toiletries (Villoresi), and the view of the Grand Canal from our room. Also, if you have room 10, you get to eat breakfast on the little balcony in the bar. Would come again in a shot. We loved the twisting alley that got us to the street entrance – what's Venice without a bit of slightly dank alleyway?

Room Tip: Room 10, all the way.

Our first visit to wonderful Venice and our good fortune to stay at this stunning boutique hotel, booked through Hotels.com! Loved loved loved the intimate, yet contemporary setting, helpful and informative staff, beautiful accomodations with every comfort and luxury. Delightful breakfast and service extraordinaire.

Some disturbing 'rumblings' among some staff re 'financial instability' and possibly closure/bankruptcy looming, which would be difficult to believe in the fully 'ocupado' and grand setting of Barbarigo. We would be sorely disappointed, but suggest travelers take care with future reservations. We would certainly return to this glorious hotel, it's absolutely memorable!

Right on the Grand Canal... Truly a highlight of our stay in Venice!

Dear Mrs Shelley,

Thank you, thank you thank you!
Please don't worry: Palazzo Barbarigo is open!
The rumours on Tripadvisor refer to a particulary situation now finally solved.
Our hotel will continue to welcome all the guests and to provide them high quality standards and the best “Venetian experience”.

Thank you very much

Let me start by stating this - We loved this hotel! The ambiance, eclectic "Venetian decor", the breakfast room, everything was over the top.

That said - I have one complaint and a word of warning....

- Complaint = Our first evening there we were told that the terrace/balcony was available to
any patron and couldn't be reserved, "but please be considerate of other guests that may want to use the terrace."

The next morning, as we were sitting on the terrace, we were informed that the terrace was "reserved" by another couple for breakfast.... And we had to leave the terrace. After a long day of exploring Venice, we returned to find out that the terrace was "reserved" for the afternoon by the same couple... Not that I'm complaining per say... But the gentleman slept in his chair for over an hour, while his young travel mate read a tour book,,,,, and then laughed about his head nodding while he was sleeping.

- Word of Warning - On our last day in Venice, we overheard a waitstaff in the breakfast room saying they hadn't been paid their wages in three weeks and that the hotel was considering closing the week before we arrived. My suggestion? Check daily as to availability,

In closing, we would definitely stay there again, if it's open.

Dear Bittcom1,

First of all we would like to thank you for loving Palazzo Barbarigo and for your suggestions.
Regarding the balcony, in effect, to avoid “fights” between the guests, we don’t reserve it because there is only one table for two: anyway it’s a “privilege” we accord when booking our Junior suite Grand Canal Best View, our largest Junior suite.
The best news, anyway, is that Palazzo Barbarigo is now managed directly by the ownership.
The collegue in the breakfastroom only misunderstood an effectively unpleasant situation that anyway, by law, we had to attempt, all our staff did not loose money.
So, thank you very much again, we look forward to welcome again!

We recently visited Venice for the first time and were fortunate to choose this hotel from among the many offerings. The location on the grand canal, close, but not too close, to the Rialto Bridge was perfect. The hotel is a former palazzo and is a small boutique hotel. The staff were helpful and gracious, the room luxe, the breakfast was the most complete and beautifully presented of all the hotels during our travels in Italy. The environs for exploring on foot were great, as well.
Because it is intimate, we often found the small balcony overlooking the canal unoccupied, and we enjoyed it several times for a coffee or cocktail. The rooms, it seems, all have views of either the grand canal, or a side canal, however, none have a private balcony. We found Venice to be clean by land and by sea, contrary to reports by other. A sheer delight. We would choose this hotel again.

Dear Mrs. Mary,

Thank you very much for your precious review.
It’s precious because you demonstrate that our city is more cozy than many people think, and that is not so difficult to seat in our balcony!

Thank you!

Great weekend away to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary at this boutique hotel in Venice. We found it hard to choose a hotel & picked this because it seemed modern yet luxurious. It lived up to our high expectations but for us it might not have been good value for money because we were out so much.

After reading other reviews, we arrived and left by a shared water taxi pre-booked with Venice-Link which is cheaper for a couple. The hotel provides a good map that we used throughout our stay so it's not hard to find the hotel and other places once checked in. Our room on the ground floor faced the small canal - a novelty at first but noisy in the mornings. The room was as nicely decorated as the pictures on the website. Bathroom was good; with the rain shower powerful and refreshing but the room was too dark for my husband who struggled to shave properly. The bathroom tv thing didn't work but we didn't care. Location is great - away from the tourist crowds but not too far from St Marks square (about 20-30 mins walk) or Vaporetto stop (3 mins walk). There's a nice square nearby with the St Pantalon church (amazing ceiling painting), GROM for fresh gelato and some shops including a supermarket. Also not far from the student area (Campo St Margharita) so some cool bars and restaurants nearby.

It's probably worth upgrading to a grand canal view if you can - we didn't and we didn't see much of it from the hotel itself. The balcony in the bar is brilliant but only seats 2 people - we had an afternoon drink there and loved it. I asked if we could have breakfast there one morning (in advance at reception) and I was told we couldn't. Maybe because we were leaving early that morning for the airport? I don't know the reason but I think it was be good if the hotel allowed guests to book slots on the balcony for breakfast. Be aware that if you book a regular room you probably won't be able to see much of the grand canal from your room or for breakfast - that's what made us wonder about value for money. Other than that concierge/reception were really helpful with suggesting restaurants, providing directions, confirming taxi's...

Dear Mrs Sheenavit,
Thank you for helping us: we are doing big efforts to keep and to increase the reputation of Palazzo Barbarigo.
We don’t use to reserve the balcony to avoid misunderstandings between guests and between guests and staff: as you wrote “The balcony in the bar is brilliant but only seats 2 people” and , unfortunately, it will never become a terrace!
We hope that, one day, you will come back and enjoy a Junior suite overlooking the Gran Canal, who knows?
