Santa Sofia Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #361 of 471 Venice B&B and Inns

We stayed here for 4 nights in August. The place was easy enough to find using the instructions provided (I recommend buying a map for reassurance though).

The room we had (room 1) was huge - nice comfy bed, a fold-out bed as well (doubling as a lounge) as well as a table (where breakfast was served) and also TV & Fan. The only drawback was that it was very hot when we were there, and the Fan wasn't quite enough to keep us cool - air conditioning is a must in that heat/humidity.

Breakfast was ordinary but not inedible as suggested by other reviewers - I think the breakfast is offset by the great location and also that you can get pastries etc. downstairs very close to the BnB.

The staff were fantastic and very friendly and helpful.

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for value for money in Venice, and I would stay there again - although would very much appreciate air conditioning next time around!

Room Tip: Ask for room 1. Also close both the blinds and the windows - they block out all the noise.

We stayed at Santa Sofia B&B for 2 nights arriving in the afternoon and no one there. Luckily there was a phone number beside the buzzer, we called this number from a local store and waited 20 minutes for someone to arrive. With only 3 rooms on a 2nd floor - there is not always someone there.
The room was clean and very basic, decent furniture and room overlooking other buildings. Shared bathroom down the hall very clean. Biggest problem was the breakfast - packaged croissant - and packaged melba toast, coffee that tasted bad and yogurt flavors that were not appealing. You are provided a tray to sit in at your coffee table. The 2nd day we declined breakfast and went down to the alley below and walked 1-2 minutes to a great cafe with a freshly baked Croissant, fresh squeezed orange juice and large cafe au lait for 6 euro per person.
The location was perfect - right by the rialto bridge - shops and very central walking distance to everything. Also had free wifi that worked better than any other location on our trip.

Room Tip: Choose the room at the back beside the kitchen and it does not back on to the noisy alley.

Truly an awful experience. Stayed two nights. We had extra guests staying with us for one night that I made the B&B aware of months in advance and we were told it would be 20euro a person, but when we arrived, they doubled the price for the guests. Also we were told that we were getting a private bathroom which was not even possible. The managers/owners were rude suggesting that if we did not like it, we can go somewhere else, knowing full well all of Venice would be booked, essentially meaning; bend-over and like it.
Avoid at all costs.

Clean, basic, close to the waterway, very close to Rialto Bridge. The owner of this b&b has limited english and our italian was limited but we were able to communicate just fine. Our breakfast consisted of yogurt, croissants, orange drink, toast, and choice of cocoa/tea/coffee. We paid 100 euros/nt. which was quite affordable for Venice.

I believe there is a residence in the same building and they were quite loud at times but it really didn't bother us since it was usually during the day or we were out til late walking Venezia.

There are 3 rooms that share a bathroom. We never had to wait on the bathroom. There is a blowdryer in each room so if you are looking to save room in your luggage, keep the blowdryer at home!

I have no complaints. Santa Sofia is a few steps from the foot of the Rialto Bridge and the Rialto market stop. I wanted a cheap room in the heart of San Polo and that is what I got. I knew what I was in for: no frills, a utilitarian room with no style or charm, a shared bathroom, truly uninspired breakfast, but all served with a smile.

What did it for me was location, location, location. Directions to the hotel were easy to follow. I walked everywhere, and just needed a clean bed and a shower. Free wifi was a nice plus. If you're looking for creature comforts, delightful décor, and gourmet breakfasts, head elsewhere. If you're looking for functional and cheap (I paid €35/night in January), then this will suit you fine. And have breakfast in a caffè downstairs.
