In this most wonderful of world cities, the Hotel al Codega offers a secluded retreat that one can really appreciate after a long day fighting the other hordes of tourists that invade Venice almost year round. Although difficult to find at first, the al Codega is just four minutes walk from St Mark’s Square and about six minutes from the Rialto Bridge area.

Once you enter the hotel’s tiny square off the beaten track, you’ll feel an immense sense of relief as you approach the premises. The hotel’s public areas are elegantly furnished, as are its rooms. My fourth floor double room was spacious with four windows looking eastwards towards St Marks. Windows are double paned with functioning shutters that keep out unwanted light and sound. Breakfast is a generous spread of meats, breads, cheeses, cereals, yogurts and fresh fruit, egg dishes, small sandwiches and great pastries, plus a wide range of fruit juices.

Like several other reviewers, I agree that the reception staff are nothing short of exceptional. Both Jadranka and Lorenza offered prompt attention to concerns raised, and both showed a genuine interest in my experiences and enjoyment of my stay, which was greatly appreciated. I will be back!

Situated only five minutes walk from both St Mark’s and Rialto, the hotel is in the perfect location four touring the district, though finding your way back to it can sometimes be a bit
of a challenge in the narrow alleys that all look the same! The courtyard where the hotel is situated is completely enclosed, so no noise nor casual passers-by.

Like most buildings in Venice there is little outlook, but our room on the 4th floor was very comfortable - in fact the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. The room and bathroom were beautifully appointed with everything that you could ask for. Like a previous reviewer I would have appreciated a power point next to the bed.

The stairways leading to Reception, lounge bar and breakfast room are all stunning white marble. Breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of choices to suit all tastes.

The staff were brilliant and helpful, with a special mention to Jadranka, who went out of her way to explain things and recommend places to visit.

If we return to Venice then we would certainly stay again here or at it’s sister hotel next door.

This is the third time we have stayed, we keep coming back firstly because of the wonderful staff and secondly as it is a lovely hotel situated very close to Piazza San Marco. Both Lorenza and Jadranka were such wonderful people who were always very helpful, patient and a joy to deal with. Hotel is situated in a quiet little courtyard so a lot quieter than surrounding streets. Rooms were nicely appointed as was the bathroom. Breakfast is fantastic with a large range of choices that are beautifully prepared and a large choice of freshly squeezed juices. We just love Venice as it is such a beautiful and unique city, we could walk in any direction and explore different neighborhoods, and could always find our way back tothe hotel by following signs to San Marco. There is so much more to Venice than just the main tourist attractions so just go for a walk or ask reception for ideas, they even drew up a map for us of different places to go. Thank you very much to Jadranka and Lorenza for everything and making our stay in Venice so wonderful.

After spending several nights at the 5* star Hilton Molina Stucky and having a horrible stay because of glue on the toilet seat that the staff could not clean off the first room then getting moved to a different room where the Pittsburg University Basketball team was partying and wrestling and making all kinds of noise I had enough of the Hilton and booked the Al Codega at 1/3 the price. The Al Codega is in the center of everything yet quietly hidden away in its own little sanctuary entered though a courtyard just feet from the hustle and bustle of Venice tourist traffic. Shops and restaurants abound just steps from the secluded courtyard. Excellent accommodating staff and excellent breakfast. Don’t waste your money at 5* hotels when Al Codega has a better product at a fraction of the cost.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff was very welcoming and offered us breakfast when we arrived. They also got our room ready very quickly. The room was adequate although the shower was small. Since we had an early morning plane, they made up a breakfast bag for us to take. My only negative comment is that the hotel can be hard to find as it is in a courtyard and not on a major street. They have a handy map to use. Google maps does not work in Venice and of course there are no cabs, so you need to make sure you know where you are going. We would stay at this hotel again.
