As with most places in Italy, low water pressure and the beds are terrible. Rooms were large and clean, breakfast was enough to keep you going to lunch. Locations was also ideal. Great for an overnight stay

Okay the pros- Good price, great location, we had a huge triple room with a large clean bathroom and it was soooo quiet. Internet worked well. Bed was comfortable.

Cons- The day staff are a bit cold. The breakfast room is cheerless and the coffee was absolutely dreadful. I don't expect a lot from a continental breakfast, but instant coffee in Venice should be a crime... If you stay here, there is a wonderful coffee bar just over the little bridges towards St Mark's- go there.

The key situation is odd... you need a ring of four keys to get in and out, and there are lights on timers so it is often dark in the halls? It is secure- so if that is important to you this is a pro. Finding the place is a challenge- we had precise directions and were right in front of the door before we saw the B&B name on the doorbell plate... they really should get a sign.

All in all, I would stay here again, especially now that we know what to expect. I loved the quiet back canal atmosphere, the great location, and the lovely room.

Room Tip: Ask for the triple- it doesn't have a view, but you will love the space and bathroom.

We stayed at this hotel in September 2013, and overall did not have a very positive experience. We booked based on location and value, and the fact that we waited until pretty late to make our reservations and the majority of hotels were interested in were full. Here are our thoughts:

POSITIVE
- Location: The location was the reason that we booked this hotel and definitely was helpful. We were a 12 minute walk from St. Marks, 15 from Rialto, and close to our favorite hotel the Gritti Palace (dinner there was UNBELIEVABLE!)

- Value: Venice is expensive, so this was one of the cheaper hotels near St. Marks. That being said, it was still over $250 USD/night which seemed like a lot for such a poor B&B. In hindsight, I would have much rather paid an additional couple hundred dollars to stay in a quality Venice hotel.

NEGATIVE:
- Rooms: We were in a room on the bottom floor that opened up to a courtyard. The room was dark, depressing, and spartan. Walls were bare and decor was a minimal. The beds were fairly uncomfortable and the bathroom was tiny (even for European standards). We were given 3-4 different keys that we have to use to get into the building, courtyard, room, etc. They were poorly marked and it was always a challenge getting in and out.

- Service: The good...they were nice enough and did provide us breakfast in our mini fridge on our last night due to our early checkout, very thoughtful. The bad...we essentially only had a day and a half in Venice so obviously wanted to spend as much time exploring as possible. The check-in process was ridiculously long, it must have taken nearly an hour. We were hot and uncomfortable from the ride on the Water Bus (YUCK!) and all we wanted to do was go to the room, shower, and get out! It really bothered me that they weren't more efficient since essentially all they needed from us was our CC, passports, and signature.

Overall I would definitely not recommend staying at the Zaguri. If you're looking for value I'd just pick a cheap hostel or guest house. Or, splurge on a nice hotel...$250/night for a crummy hotel is definitely not worth it!

We recently stayed here for two nights with our two children. The location is fab and only 5-10 mins walk to the main square and it is in the middle of all the attractions, cafes etc. The B&B is located on a small canal which our room looked over. The room was basic but super clean. The hosts made us feel very welcome and we felt comfortable the whole time. Breakfast was simple but adequate. Overall I would definitely stay here again if we return to Venice. The accommodation is great value compared to other hotels in the area (which are massively overpriced).

We stayed two nights and wished we had planned for a longer stay in Venice. Small room but very comfortable and quiet at night… even with the windows open! People in the house are wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to help us with our travels. They have their own restaurant attached, and so breakfast (included) was superb. The location was perfect for seeing the best of Venice, and we even got to a chamber music concert one evening because it was so close. They eased us in to the Italian way of dinner… late, over conversation and wine… no rush, many courses! This is a great B&B!

The location of this B&B is great, it is about a 5 minute walk to Saint Marks Square and the Galleria de Academia. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, bars, and shops to stroll through on the way to both. The room was clean(although not as large as described online) breakfast was good(equivalent of continental style) and it is right on a small canal. I am giving the B&B a 2 star review for the following reasons:
-The bathroom was overall clean but we found loads of hair on the shower wall. It wasn't just one or two strands, it seemed like someone had cut their hair in the shower. I am not sure how this was missed when the room was cleaned. It made me question the cleanliness of everything else, we ended up cleaning the shower ourselves before allowing my 6 year old to use it.
-We could hear everything going on in the hallway. The "office" is only manned in the morning. One night someone called and the phone just rang and rang, it sounded as though it was in our room. There was nobody to answer so it continuously rang, waking my daughter up.
- On the day we left we were able to leave our bags even though we had checked out. When we returned to collect our bags we noticed that our room had not yet been cleaned. So, we asked if we could use the bathroom. The housekeeper just looked irritated and said "no" then went and closed the door to our room. I know they did not have to let us use the bathroom but why not? One of the reasons we like to stay at a bed and breakfast is because they are usually very accommodating. That is not the case here.

One other thing that bothered me but wasn't really a big deal is the tourist tax. The tax is not included in the online price you are quoted. They sent an email within a few hours of our reservation explaining that the tax would be added but why not quote it prior to the reservation?

When searching for hotels we found several in this price range, we will not return to this one.

Spent 3 nights here in early September 2013. Directions to find B&B were very helpful, as it could be hard to find. Short walk from vaporetto stop, over 2 small bridges (having wheels on luggage helps). Mario was also very helpful and informative upon check in. No lift access and as rooms are on the first floor be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs, Mario helped us with this as well. Location was great, walking distance to many attractions and transport. Room was adequate with a clean & good sized ensuite. If possible, choose room with a view, as our window faced a wall, but as we didn't spend much time in the room it wasn't a big issue. The pillows (as with most accommodation) were not very comfortable, very flat. Breakfast was basic, but adequate. Staying in Venice can be very expensive so this B&B was great value for money and would stay here again.
