Hotel Dei Dragomanni
Ranked #143 of 387 Hotels in Venice
Reviewed July 1, 2012

My wife and I stayed here recently with a couple of our friends, and the hotel and staff were both excellent. The Hotel is, however, very difficult to find. It's down and alleyway, and the entrance doorway is rather nondescript. If the door is closed, you could walk right past it and not even notice the small plaque with the hotel name on it. I highly recommend having a map and directions printed out and at hand when you first visit. Our party, unfortunately, did not. We were relying on directions from locals, but none were actually familiar with the hotel, and even when they called the hotel for directions, they ended up confused, and the directions were not quite accurate. We eventually found the place, but it took a fair amount of searching. Once you know where you are going, it's a fairly good location within easy walking distance of several locations.

My wife and 2 children were a little apprehensive as some of the guest comments hinted on a tedious walk from the boat to the hotel site. We were relieved to find that the boat anchored very close to the entrance and it was only a few meters walk away. The driver of the boat as well as the hotel staff were helpful in carrying our luggage. The reception room and the adjoining breakfast room and bar were absolutely stunning with large mural art work on the walls. The very warm and cozy ambiance was absolutely welcoming. The breakfast could be had either in the breakfast room or in the adjacent bar area. Though it was self-service the maids were extremely forthcoming by seating us and serving us coffee/tea.
We would have opted for a room with a balcony and canal view. Unfortunately they were unavailable then. The extra steps we had to climb to reach the room from the lift landing area were steep and would be cumbersome for the elderly.
Dei Drogomanni perfectly reflects the charm of Venice!

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Dragommani for one night (June 5, 2012) during our 2 week trip across Italy. We were suprised that the hotel was actually one of the biggest and nicest hotels we stayed at our entire trip.

Pros:
- 4 star hotel with a bright, clean, "luxury" feeling.
- oversized, bright hotel room, with huge bathoom and a full tub (rare find in Italy)
- They had bubble bath foam
- They had a normal hair dryer in the bathroom.
- Decent breakfast (cold cuts, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, bread, pastries, coffee)
- The bed was big and comfy with clean, soft sheets.
- Helpful reception desk with good English skills.

Cons:
- A little tricky to get to using the hotel directions (especially since the boat stop they recommended on the website was closed)
- Not directly on the water, so you don't get that "classic" veneitian experience.
- Limited table space during "rush hour" at breakfast. They only had 5-6 tables in the breakfast room, so some people had to wait.
- We paid $290 for one night here (booked on cheap tickets). It was probably a little too pricey for the overall value.

Great little hotel in excellent central location. Close enough to key areas but not in a madly busy area. Plenty of good restaurants within 5 min walk.

All staff were very helpful, polite and obliging. Room had everything you need (well, apart from tea/coffee making facilities which would have been welcome for an early-morning cuppa, though there is room service if you're desperate) and was spotlessly clean. My room wasn't very big but then most of the time I was out in Venice and didn't need a palatial suite. I was travelling alone and so maybe there are bigger rooms for families and couples.

The breakfast buffet was more than adequate though the dining room was a little small so some people were served breakfast in the bar, which was fine.

I'd certainly stay there again when/if I return to Venice and would recommend it as a no-nonsense unfussy hotel with service that I couldn't fault.

Its a very nice hotel, it is rated as a 4 star hotel, and the front desks gives off the vibe as it is a "better" hotel, ie, a bit snobby.

However they were very helpful, helped us with the water taxi in, and out to the airport and the hotel rooms are extremely nice, plus the bathrooms do have full tubs, which was a welcome change from the much smaller stand up showers in other hotels.

One peeve was the Wifi, all the hotels in Italy seem to give free Wifi, however since we booked this hotel using Expedia, we did not receive free wifi. The front desk told us that if we booked through their own site we would have gotten free wifi, however their site had the very same room for $20 more per night...also their wifi rates are a bit ridiculous (5E for 30 mins, 10E for 1 hour, 15E for 6 hours) For a hotel that charges over $300 per night, i would've assumed wifi would be included.

Nonetheless, it is an excellent hotel in a very good location, close to the St. Marks and Ponte Rialto.

The breakfast in the morning was amazing, in addition to the fruits and pastries, we could also order a different variety of coffees made to order, including cappuccino, espresso, etc.

Can't go wrong staying here if you feel like spoiling yourself..I would recommend checking their hotel site, before booking through a travel site, just in case there is no price difference.

We added a day in Venice after our cruise and stayed at the Hotel Dei Dragomanni. Overall a nice little place but absolutely not worth the amount we paid for it. There was one elevator, which did not operate for the 24 hours from the time we checked in until left, staff had no idea when it would be repaired. Although we reserved delux room, which the website said was "Larger, more spacious" the room itself was small, even for a European hotel. The bathroom however, was very large and comfortable. Location was fine, about a ten minute walk to the square as well as a short walk to a canal for the water taxi.
