Ok, so its Venice, so any room is going to be pricey, we "only"paid around $85 euros per night for this very simple room/guest house.
It is in the heart of venice, 7-8 minute walk to Rialto Bridge.
Our room overlooked a canal, (admittidelty not the most beautiful canal but) one which was used regualarly by the gondolas and it was still spectactualr to sit at our window and watch them going beneath the bridge as we sipped a drink.
The house includes use of a kitchen, which for us is a total bonus and helps to keep the overall holiday cost down.
Our room had an ensuite with a very pleasant shower.
The bed was comfortable and clean.
The TV has a few channels. (none in english)
Things to note...
The owner does NOT speak ANY english...so be prepared, his english is as good as my non-existent Italian, so... seriously. you will not understand each other AT ALL. either plan as few phrases or get some sort of translator to help.
Finding the house the first time IS DIFFICULT, you have to ring from a nearby pay phone and then meet the owner, the website has a map..make sure you study it well and follow it carefully as Venice is very confusing.
You will have to bank transfer the first nights $ as a deposit, they do not take any credit cards at all and you will have to pay in cash for the whole stay when you arrive..we were nervous about it, but the guy was fine and trustworthy.
All in all, i would definitley recommedn the casa orfeo for a simple, reasonably inexpensive way to stay in the heart of Venice.
