“La Dolce Vita”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

It was a year ago today that my son and I stayed at Sandra Bed and Breakfast in Venice. This was our first stop on a three month trip, but it was by far the most memorable. B and B Sandra definitely lived up to all of the excellent reviews. Sandra and Leonardo are the consummate Venetian hosts: warm and welcoming, refined and helpful. Plus, Sandra speaks excellent English. We stayed in the attic suite which was huge, with two sofas, tea service, a balcony, views of the canals, and very comfortable beds. The decor in the room and throughout the house is elegant yet understated.

The breakfast was unbelievable. Fresh bread, fresh fruit, different cheeses and charcuterie every morning, along with fresh savory and sweet pastries, cereal, yogurt, coffee and tea, and more! The breakfast room was so pretty and sunny. We just loved it.

A few things to keep in mind: B and B Sandra is in the Cannaregio sestieri, so it is about a ten minute walk or vaporetto ride from St. Marc's Square. I liked being away from the maddening crowds, and seeing a more authentic part of Venice, but others might feel differently. Also, the B and B is on the top floor of a building, meaning you must climb four or five flights of stairs, a big consideration if you have mobility issues or will be traveling with heavy suitcases. (A great advantage if you want to walk off some of the cicchetti you've been eating or all those chocolates from VizioVirtu'.)

The one thing I would do differently is take a water taxi to the B and B from the airport. We arrived at night and had just a little trouble finding the place. Bear in mind that I am directionally challenge and that Sandra gives excellent directions. Apparently taxis can be shared, mitigating the 100 euro cost.

A Helpful Hint: if you pop around the corner from the B and B (kind of do a u-turn, really) onto Strada Nuovo, heading towards Ca D'Oro, there's a great little supermarket (probably a Coop) next door to the McDonalds. They have hot and cold food and you can put together a delicious and reasonably priced picnic. Their roasted chickens were excellent. We liked to picnic at Giardini ex Reali just behind Piazza San Marco, facing the San Marco Giardinetti boat platforms. Hope you enjoy your stay in Venice. I really can't wait to return.

Together with a friend, we stayed at Sandra's a couple of days last May on the occasion of the Americas's Cup. They were very welcoming, the flat is very cosy and the breakfast is just great. I strongly advise it, especially for cats lovers.

My husband and I have been staying with Sandra and her husband Leonardo in their beautiful home for the past 5 years and we can't think of a better place to stay.
We have just returned from another wonderful weekend with the most amazing and generous hosts. We always stay in the attic room however all her rooms (only 3) are beautiful, spotlessly clean and welcoming. The breakfasts are incredible and each day Sandra presented us with a buffet of fresh fruit, cereal, juice, yoghurt, bread, cheese, meat, amazing home-made savoury pastries and wonderful home-made cake....and of course as much coffee and tea as you want.
The location is amazing - close to the main sights and shopping but incredibly quiet.
We are already planning another trip back to Sandra's b&b later this year - we love it!

Our second visit to this wonderful B&B. it is a real home from home.
Situated in the lovely area of Cannaregio with excellent restaurants at very reasonable prices.
Sandra's 3 rooms are very comfortable with lovely furnishings and comfortable beds. particularly like the memory foam pillows, The very nice kettle, teapot, cups are a very good addition especially if like us you like a cup of tea. Everything is beautifully clean.
Breakfast is a real treat with fruit, cereals, meat, cheese, savoury dish and the most wonderful cake.
Sandra and Leonardo have good advice about everything Venice and kindly booked our chosen restaurants.. Nothing seems to be any trouble to them.
Anyone wanting to stay in a very comfortable home and be thoroughly spoilt should look no further than this B & B; you won't be disappointed.

We stayed at Sandra B&B for 3 nights during our European Vacation.

Sandra was very welcoming and was a lovely host! The rooms were of a nice size, not too small, and the attached en-suites were a good size as well.

Sandra had a host of restaurants, bars, supermarkets, pharmacies, shops and everything else you could think of, already planned out on a map for her guests, making it very easy to navigate the area. All of these locations were within a few minutes walking distance from the B&B.

The B&B is a street back from a main street, but in a very quiet area by comparison.

The included breakfasts were a highlight, with a large selection of different hot and cold options (different home made options each day). Tea and coffee preferences were also catered for.

Sandra's home is beautiful and it is wonderful that she has opened her home to travellers.

I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Trattoria Misericordia around the corner was a great location for dinner, so much so we went there 3...

Sandra and Leonardo are the ultimate hosts. Their apartments is beautiful, crowned by their lovely art collections. The breakfasts are fantastic. Our attic room had it's own roof deck ( "Altana") overlooking all the rooftops of Venice. Their location is in the heart of the Cannaregio, where many of the venetian locals live. It has some good local restaurants, and lots of back "alleys" to explore (especially fun in the early morning). It is only a few blocks from the Strada Nova, which traverses the city, and takes you to San Marco square through the heart of the shopping district in about 20 minutes. It's within walking distance of the Valporetto stops ( both on the lagoon and the grand canal. Have stayed 5 times, and intend on staying with them again next year when we return to Italy. Our Favorite !!!

Room Tip: They have only 3 rooms, so it's like visiting friends. The attic is our favorite because of the...

We had 4 nights at this B&B, and it was a good spot to explore from, lots of nice eating places, nice breakfasts, comfy room, helpful hosts. The canals flooded while we were there which added to the experience. The water taxis were a great way to get around. On the whole a good choice for authentic Venice living.
