“great for students!”
Reviewed July 31, 2008

ignore the bad reviews here, they must have been written by people who were clearly looking for a quiet countryside break! we went as a group of 6 student backpackers, so it's what we were looking for! the campsite was easily accessible by the bus and not too expensive, general prices were what you would expect. there's a great happy hour at the bar and the bar staff are amazing. it's overall a fantastically social place where you'll meet hundreds of new people (mostly from australian bus tours!) and the "pin" cabins we stayed in had great air conditioning, and the bathroom was good too. although the card system instead of money was strange, it didn't actually have any drawbacks and helps backpackers keep an eye on the money they're spending! the supermarket is well stocked and the pool is great for sunbathing, games, or just chilling there. the only problems we encountered were a very rude bus driver and a couple of full buses, useless food staff, and strange supermarket opening hours. But would definitely recommend it to young people who just want to drink and have fun meeting new people!

We came here via Busabout and booked a private cabin with an ensuite, which was clean and comfy.

The campsite isn't huge but it's nicely decked out and has a good bar and great restaurant. There's also a supermarket, and a shuttle bus to take you into Venice which from memory is about a 20 minute trip.

There are two drawbacks about the campsite however - one being its proximity to the airport (great for plane-spotters but a few hundred metres TOO close for most people); and its mosquitos, which seem to have a taste for foreign food. Be sure to take repellent with you, as it costs big dollars both at the campsite and anywhere else in Venice. But it's still worth it, as they make Australian mozzies look tame by comparison.

We didn't find the plane noise as much of a problem, having lived in Sydney for a few years - and they also seemed to stop at night (or maybe I was just tired!).

Overall, not perfect but good for the price, especially in one of Italy's dearer locations.

I originally booked for 3 nights but since really liked it stayed for extra night.
I stayed in a double cabin which had own shower and toilet. Cost 37 euro per night.
The bar staff were great, we ended up drinking until 4.30am one night playing beer drinking games with them after they closed up.
The reception staff were also very helpful with them booking my accomadation in Florence.
The only whinge I have is with the pool attendent (Pool Nazi). It started just spitting a little rain and he closed the pool area and gym. The gym is under cover anyway and when in pool you get wet anyway!
If you book buy some insect repellent as it is quite expensive in their store.
They also have a shuttle bus leaving D1 in Venice that cost 4 euros return. 2 euros one way. Its a full size boach bus and runs on the hour from camping ground and on the half hour from Venice.
I recommend to buy the Mick special from the Gondola Bar, it cost 12 euros but is very strong and well worth it (except the hangover in morning!!)

Camping Alba D'Oro is extremely cheap, as any campground is but regardless of the price, nothing could ever make me come back again.

The "cabins" are actually tiny portable units (trailers) that are lined up in the back. Tents are available in the area prone to flooding and there are also empty lots if you decide to bring your own camping car / RV.

When we arrived, we were informed that anything that we purchased on the premises had to be purchased using the facility's currency - a magnetic card that had to be charged with Euros before use. It was not possible to pay using cash. We were offered an incentive coupon to "try" the restaurant on site. We didn't have any choice. The place was located literally in the middle of an industrial district next to an airport and nothing else was within walking distance.

The restaurant was quite possibly the worst food we have ever eaten and we paid the most for it out of every city we had visited in Italy over the course of a week. Service was unresponsive, seemingly more inclined to service the needs of what can only be called a "drink until you vomit youth tour of Europe." During dinner, we could look toward the bar to see bands of college age youth wandering off towards their cabins to dress in sheets for the daily "toga party." The noise from their drinking was loud but wasn't nearly as loud as the aircraft taking off at the airport runway adjacent to the campground every 10 minutes (no joke.)

Prices for the food, the campground store and the bar were all artificially inflated in order to suck as much money out of the guests as possible. Doing a single load of laundry costs about 8 Euros ($12.) Prices in the store are just as expensive.

The "bus" that takes people to Venice gives priority to the "groups" of organized tours so, if you are more than one or two people, you WILL be asked to take the city bus into town to give room to the groups. You will be thankful though because the experience mainly consists of a mob of roughly 50 hungover youth on the verge of vomiting being coralled into a bus and "energized" by a slighlty older youth representative of the group who makes fun of all of them about their drinking escapades and encourages them to drink more when they get to Venice. Of course, you will hear no end of "like", "you know", "whatever", and "OH MY GOD" as you do your best to act like you speak an entirely different language and run off the bus to disassociate yourself from them.

It should have been advertised that this location is a participating member in a European Tour group called Plusted.com - www.plusted.com This wonderful experience for youth advertises "the best hangover" in Europe.

The pool and hot tubs looked nice but were closed for chemical treatment the entire time of our stay. The shower water starts hot but lasts about 5 minutes before a loud banging noise and a downpour of ice cold water announces that it is time to get out.

The mornings are wonderful when the silence between the drunk kids and the flights restarting is broken by the sound of two people walking by your cabin stating "You know, these cabins are really easy to break into. I mean, all it would take is a little force on the window to get in."

Don't go.

i though this was a great place for people on a budget. i stayed in on of the cabins and it was quite clean and sufficient. The staff were very friendly and the place just has a good feel about it. The bar is pretty cool, (watch out for the killer cocktails! ) it's convenient that they run a shuttle into the centre of venice, as its a little way out. You are right near a small airport, but you get used to the sound suprisingly quickly!! however despite these drawbacks it is still a pretty good place to stay :)

We stayed here for 3 nights in October in one of the cabins. This is really a great campsite that caters for all your basic needs. I recon the pool etc would be fantastic in summer. The restaurant served good food and we got to have a few drinks while watching SA beat Argentina in the world cup semi final at their pub, what more could you want?
