This really is a must see and such a contrast to Venice itself. We only spent a few hours here but would definitely come back - we hired a bike for the 3 of us (buggy type bike) - it was awesome if not a little frightening allowing a maverick teenage son to steer!

The beaches were lovely and the bar was very welcoming (esp after the bike trip!!)

We walked a great deal before we realised the public beach called "blue moon" is the first beach you come to from the main road through the island. Great beach, amenities are reasonable, ?1 for toilet, ?5 for use of lockers and showers/changing room. Plenty of people walking up and down selling coconut, and towel/throws to sit on, but they werent a bother. The water was nice and warm for early september. The main street that gives access from the vaporetto station to the beaches is lined with some very nice looking restaurants, otherwise quite high class residential.

visited the Lido several times, very easy to hop over on the vaparetto. it was completely unlike the island of Venice, and quite refreshing to go for the day. lots of great bars and restaurant, with some cool bards open till late. it's quite different to the island as there is alot of traffic. you can get a busy to the airport from here, but we preferred to take the vaparetto. the beach is beautiful, and a great way to spend an afternoon. you can also hop a vaparetto to the Hilton Stocky which is a great way to see the city from high up - they also have a stunning roof terrace serving moet and you can go for a dip in their pool!

By taking a water bus from Venice across to the Lido ( about 30 minutes ) the family can enjoy a perfect day on the beach. Best tip, if you are in Venice for a few days, is to get a combined ticket for the water buses and buses on the Lido island area. The travellers combi-tickets are available in 24 hour, 3 day or 7 day combinations and vary in price from 15 euros upwards. The water buses do tend to get very crowded.
Having purchased your ticket its about 20 - 30 minutes, depending on where you board the water bus, to the island of Lido. Get off the water bus, walk along to the right on the sea front and catch the 'B' bus route to the beach area. Plenty of warm sea, sun and sand. Nice bar/restaurant area where the bus stops. Its then a two minute walk to the water front and you can hire beach loungers and sunshades, typical off all Mediterranean beach resorts. Can't recall the exact cost but I seem to remember about 20 euros for two loungers for the day. Buses run late into the evening, but check on the timetables which are posted. Its about a twenty minute bus ride from where the water bus arrives on the Lido to the beach area.
Have fun, Henry

Visited the island in order to visit the seaside for a couple of hours and was glad to get away from the crowds in Venice. Being a public beach it was very busy and there was hardly any space but eventually once some people left there was more than enough space to relax and watch the world go by. The walk from the water bus stop was down a beautiful avenue lined with shops and hotels. A nice day trip.
