“Grotty rooms if not in main building”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2009

This hotel is a story of two halves. The main reception building (which also houses some rooms I believe) seemed nice - very minimalist and new; clean and impressive.

However, they also have another building (only a minute or so away by foot), which we had a room in. This was horrible. Just look at the picture I've uploaded to see the building we stayed in. The room wasn't great - it really needs redecorating and making nice. The building is shabby and looks like somewhere you'd want to avoid from the outside. I was really disappointed with the place.

On top of this, we booked a twin room. What we actually got was a double bed and a camp bed, which was in very bad condition (springs coming through the very thin mattress etc). We ended up sharing the double bed. The bathroom was also shabby. Not a nice experience.

Venice is expensive so this was one of the cheaper hotels we found whilst still in a very central location. Location was really good, but the building and room was really very grotty and horrible. It sounds like the rooms in the reception building are a lot nicer, but I guess it's pot luck where you get placed. The guy on reception seemed ok, spoke fantastic English and could give you lots of info on where to go and so on, so quite helpful.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. When we arrived, we were greeted by a nice man who showed us our room, and said breakfast is served between 8-11am. The rooms are big, nice and comfortable. However not sound proofed, and not air conditioned. So be prepared for misquitos and loud noises from the square below - we woke up to noisy lovers in the next room at 3am, funny but extremely loud. When we went down for breakfast the next morning, the lady told us that we a) hadn't paid for breakfast, and b) they needed to move us to the Annexe apartments located off-site - 2 mins walk away. Why the guy hadn't told us this the night before, is beyond me. The lack of communication was disappointing. To be fair what I had payed for, was the room at the Annexe apartments, and in fact the hotel was doing us a favour by letting us stay at the nicer accommodation on-site for the 1st night. But by not telling us, they turned a positive thing into a negative. Anyway, the owner then agreed to give us a free breakfast for the next 2 mornings to make up for this issue.
So if you want to stay somewhere that is lovely looking - but noisy, hot and has misquitos then stay at the soderini palace - main site. The breakfast is very average, but the coffee and outdoor garden area is top notch. If you are looking for a cheap stay, with no breakfast, but a good little fridge, AIR CONDITIONING, and a quiet room, stay at the Annexe apartments. This room is average size, with a decent bathroom, and the air con is a huge relief. This room is located right on a canal, where you can buy your own food and drinks from one of the few supermarkets on the island and sit in the quiet. However note that right outside your room, turns into a rubbish tip/removal area on a Sunday night, and is removed Monday. Small thing, but spoils the view a bit.
The annexe rooms are a good option if you want something clean and cheap, and in a good spot, close to st marks square and boats. Word of advice, don't catch the airport ferry - it is 25 euro, as opposed to the normal ferrry to the bus terminal and then a 2.50 euro bus to the airport.

I would recommend the Palazzo Soderini for people who spend short time in Venice and just need a calm&clean place to stay overnight.
The Palazzo is beeing renewed inside and is clean.
The Personnel is very kind, even if you can't expect the service of usual Hotels, as there is no 24/7 Reception or Restaurant/Bar.
Breakfast is basic but OK for a short stay.
Our room was upstairs and was nice an quiet with a view on the Campo. The other 3 rooms are on the basement and seemed smaller.
Free WiFi only worked in the basement, not in our room.
We have been asked to pay in cash, as credit cards are not accepted?!?
According to what we have paid, we are happy to have choosen the Palazzo Soderini, and had 2 nice days in Venice.

Well this one sounded good. Two couples in our party. One had a large odd room on the second floor that looked nothing like any pictures only. No air conditioning (was in a box in lobby). Odd loud room with plenty of mosquitos since no ac. The other room was CREEPY. Unfinished no a/c. A dead scorpion on stairs (no kidding) leading to two wierd unfinished rooms upstairs. Funky bathroom with no shower curtain. Water went everywhere. Hot stiffling, did I see really creepy? We asked to changed rooms because it was so unfinished and no a/c. We got put to a much better room but c'mon, can you remove the mold from the shower? Let's talk breakfast! Sorry ran out of yogurt. Croissant were whole wheat and tough. Meat slices in the plastic packaging. Juice in boxes. It totally sucked. And that was it! We felt absolutely duped. The second floor where they put us is clearly unfinished but I guess they figure they can make a buck in the process. Bad bad bad. Courtyard very unkept unlike in the charming online pictures.

We stayed here after searching and searching for reasonably priced accomodation in Venice without much luck so we took a chance a booked it through a late deal. The owner bought the place early in 2008 and has been doing it up since so there were one or two unfinnished bits (e.g. small areas of plastering missing) but the room we had was huge and overlooked the square at the front. As its all been recently refurbished it feels fresh and light and the area felt safe. It is also a short walk from the vaporetto stops and some of the main attractions in Venice. We arrived late and as the hotel does not have a 24 hour reception picked the key to our room up at another hotel a few minutes away. We got a text with directions to that hotel and when we arrived they walked us over to the hotel and showed us to the room. Really good place to stay.

We stayed in Palazzo Soderini for 4 days at the beginning of October. Room was average size with two big windows, spotlessly clean, and very quiet. The location was the best one, just 5 min walk from San Mark's Square, and 3 min from vaporetto. The girl who served breakfast was very friendly. But the best treasure there is Anna, energetic, very honest young women, who tried to help us in everything: - all attractions, restaurants, etc. She even made us reservation for Uffizi gallery in Florence. I can’t imagine that she can be rude to anybody. We have the best memories of this place.

The Palazzo Soderini is a wonderfully tranquil and pristine haven situated just minutes from the noise and crowds in St. Marks Square. We really liked the minimal décor of the hotel – although some may find it a bit spartan. Our room was quiet, spacious and spotless. The best thing about the hotel is the lovely garden. Such a private green space is a rare treat for visitors to Venice. Breakfast is served in the garden, which is also open all day for guests to relax in. The one criticism would be that the breakfast is quite basic – fresh fruit and better quality of cheeses would make it more enticing. Still, the provision of fridges in each room mean that you can buy your own food to supplement what’s provided, if you feel so inclined. The staff are fantastically friendly and helpful. Both Irene and Anna made us feel very much at home and were quick to assist when we required help. We would highly recommend this hotel: it’s a stylish oasis in a great location.
