We stayed here for four nights and were very pleased. If you are coming from Marco Polo Airport and take the Alilaguna, get off at Zattere and walk directly up alongside the Gesuiti Church for about 400 feet and you will be at the door. If coming on the Vapporetto down the Grand Canal from the railroad station, get off at Academia and walk with the Grand Canal to your back. That walk is somewhat longer. The room we had was spacious. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast good except for the lack of fresh fruit. You serve your own coffee from a machine and can have all you want. We found it fun to walk back to the Zattere at night, have a glass of wine at a cafe and do some people watching along the wide boulevard. It is a good location in a substantial recently remodeled building (with AC) at a good price (for Venice). The religious nature of the place is not intrusive yet it provides one with tranquility which one is glad to have returning from the crowds at St. Mark's.

Don Orione is modern, very, very clean, peaceful, relaxing, and elegant in its simplicity. Located just ~250 meters from the Accademia Vaporetto stop, Don Orione Cultural Center provides a welcome respite from the hubbub of touristy Venice. It's a great place to rest and recharge for exploring Venice the next day. And it has an elevator! The staff is pleasant and the ones I spoke with had a good command of English. Breakfast was good; pastries, cereals, bread, butter, jam, nutella, cheese, yogurt, coffee, hot chocolate, orange juice. Take some time to explore the hotel; it's reminiscent of a museum. I saw linotype printing equipment, type settings, old books, etc. from the days when such skills were taught there. Each floor also has a little library, established I suppose, by travelers who have left books upon their departure. There is no TV service in the rooms but there is a telephone. Calls to places on San Marco Island cost 40 Euro cents/minute. I would definitely stay at Don Orione again as I felt very safe and welcome there.

Room Tip: My room was on the second floor facing a school playground area and the Belle Arti hotel. It was very quiet and peaceful and fine with me.

This place was great value and very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The breakfasts were simple but nice. It is only a 5-10 minute walk to San Marco and there is a vaporetto stop almost outside the door. It was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of San Marco (and the guys selling dodgy bags). I can't recommend this place highly enough.

I stayed here recently on a 3 day trip and I cannot fault it. As a last minute booking I was allocated the only room available which was very spacious, perfectly clean but had no view. The following day, once another room became available I was moved, and given what must have been the best view in the house. Basic breakfast, but more than adequate, extremely helpful staff and beautiful surroundings. So peaceful and a respite from the crowds across the bridge. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view when booking, I think most do have but one or two don't.

Located in a monastery, but with little sign of monks, this place has an ambience closer to a a modern budget hotel. It offers comfortable no-frills accommodation (e.g. modern bathrooms but no TV or kettles in rooms), a good breakfast, and helpful reception staff. It's also very reasonably priced. The building itself has some interesting features, e.g. its modern spiral staircase. It is conveniently located close to the attractive Zattere waterfront and the Accademia bridge, in a pleasant artistic area only slightly off the main tourist trail.
