“Room with no view and soulless”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

From the direction we got of the web we found Rio Alto's front door. With 3 guys sitting on the step to get free wifi from the shop next door. Spent the next 15 minute trying to find the hotel where we needed to check in. Supposedly 30 meter away. Actually 100 meters away through the lane-ways ( start with your back to the bridge - go to the second lane on the right, turn here, then turn left, turn right, turn right (you will see a bar) walk towards it, then turn right and turn left, walk 10 meters. Now you have found reception). We were met by somebody less than happy to see us.

Walk over to the room, just I'm case you dome know where it is. Reverse of the above... Had room three on level two. It was a shell of a room with a bed and cupboard. The positive, it was quiet and dark at night and actually dark during the day two. Open the closed shutters and you will see why they are closed. It is less than 2 meters to your neighbours window with them looking straight back at you...

In summary, Venice is expensive and you get what you pay for. Just expensive for a box with no sole not like the rest of Venice.

Room Tip: Get the canal view, you can open the shutters

This was our second time at annex which is part of the hotel bartomio and it was just as good as the first time,we stayed from aug.26th-30th and we agree with the previous review about the breakfast arrangment it just not the same having breakfast on the landing just outside the bedroom door.the time before when we came it was in the main hotel and its nice to chat to fellow guests as two days we were on our own having breakfast in the annex.Apart from that everything was fine no complaints and it is a superb location and no doubt we will come back.

Room Tip: We prefer the second floor canal view room 4 it has two windows overlooking the canal and we gaze ou...

We arrived via train, then took line 2 on the vaporettos, getting off at the Rialto bridge (make sure you go in the correct direction. Many stops have different cabins for different directions and we made the mistake once of getting on the wrong one). They have a map on their website that gives pretty good directions on how to find the hotel from the Rialto bridge. You actually check in at another hotel, but it also marked on the map and is really close the Rio Alto hotel. They will walk you to Rio Alto and breakfast is at the other hotel. It's basic, but you know...free with the cost of the hotel. We ate there every morning so that we could spend money on other things.

There were two of us, but we were given a triple room, which was HUGE! It had a second bedroom with a twin bed, so when the fiance started snoring, I was able to kick him out. :) The room was air conditioned. We didn't have a lot of noise - we were pretty close to the street/canal side and I never heard anything and I'm a light sleeper. However, we could hear the front door slam pretty early in the morning. They do have "Do Not Disturb" signs, so if you'd like to sleep in, that's no problem. There is also a safe and an extra pillow.

Internet was 4 euros for 12 hours of accumulated time (you log out between uses), but it was only good for very basic service. Usually we had 1-3 bars - not enough to Skype home. So, if you're here for a short time, it's no problem, but we have been gone from home for 5 weeks so we went ahead and bought it.

The location really made this place easy to use so I would definately recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rio Alto in Venice! We stayed 3 nights in all and can't say one bad thing about this place. We arrived much earlier than our check in time but the concierge was able to escort us to our room personally and let us in anyways. We didnt try the WiFi since it wasn't free and we didn't try the breakfast since it was at the Bartolameo (sp?) hotel..instead we wandered the streets/alleyways and found some of the best cafes to have breakfasts at!! The room was a great size for europe, had plenty of space and the bathroom was much larger than expected. Absolutely no complaints! Great location - so close to the Rialto Bridge & St Marks Sq.

Room Tip: Don't worry about getting a good view from your hotel room - the noise alone will make you want...

This is a very nice and romantic hotel, it is an addition to the main Bartolomeo hotel but for me this is way better, it is a separate building where you have your key to the building and to the room which I found out to be really cool as it is more private. You have a view to a Canal which makes it more romantic, overall a nice romantic place to stay.
