We stayed for 3 nights and would definitely go back for longer. Was not hard to find at all, just far enough from crowds. Lovely garden breakfasts and beautiful canal views from our room. Room was a bit small, not unexpected or a problem by any means! They made after hours check in a breeze and helped with suggestions and dinner reservations due to holiday closures. Charming & wonderful, loved everything about it and Venice

After several wet days on our recent Italian holiday, Venice showed us its most glorious face with two days of sunshine. An added blessing was our stay at 3749 Ponte Chiodo. In the Cannaregio district, the guest house is just minutes away from the wave of tourists on the Rail Station to Piazza San Marco route, but you are in another Venice. Tucked behind its own private garden, off a quiet narrow street, 3749 Ponte Chiodo proved to be a little oasis from the bustle of the crowds. Our canal-view room had two large windows, was comfortably and prettily decorated (with an especially fine old cabinet). Since it was still a bit cool for eating outdoors in the garden, we lingered over a good breakfast and pleasant conversation with the other guests and with host, Mattia, in the dining room each morning.

Mattia was of great assistance, providing advice about restaurants, tourist sights, etc., and encouraging us to wander areas of Venice less well-known. While we did, of course, do the walk to San Marco, we did not linger with the tour groups or in the long lineups there. Rather, we sauntered the quiet streets of the Cannaregio district, saw the Tintoretto paintings in almost empty Madonna dell’Orto church, walked through the Jewish quarter. We explored the Dorsoduro district, accidently discovering along the way the Museo della Musica housed in an old church, a gondola repair shop, a wonderful tiny needlework store on a quite deserted street, and marvelous Campo Santa Margherita. We happily wandered all day and came home to Ponte Chiodo to relax a while before heading out to dinner in a neighbourhood restaurant. Absolute bliss!

We loved our stay at 3749 Ponte Chiodo and would recommend it highly to travelers who are looking for a gentler, less touristy corner of this city. We would have liked additional days there and more time for conversation with Mattia to learn about the history and secret corners of beautiful Venice.

We arrived at Ponte Chiodo after hours and Mattia made it easy for us to get in through his directions, which also made it much easier to find in the wonderful maze of paths and bridges. Ponte Chiodo is close to so many sights and shopping, but far enough out of the mainstream traffic that is was nice and quiet after hours. Our entire experience was perfect, from Mattia's prompt emails when booking and confirming our space, to checkout on our last day. The room was nice and tidy with a beautiful view on the 1st floor (2nd floor in the States) onto the little canal. We had the double standard room with a little bed for our daughter which also included a private bathroom across the hallway. The bathroom was nice and clean with a nice view out onto the cute little garden and the shower had plenty hot water and pressure. Mattia was very welcoming at our first breakfast and was more than happy to provide us with recommendations on places to eat and things to do, having been a longtime Venezia resident also with a child. The breakfast was a simple and typical Italian breakfast with nice crusty breads and pastry, butter and jam, yogurt, fruit, juice, and a beautifully finished cappucino that was different every morning. We would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Venezia, whether as a couple, with friends, or a family with kiddos. Everything was wonderful and the price was amazingly affordable for what they provide in such an expensive city. We would definitely recommend following Mattia's directions and eating at Antica Adelaide just a short walk away. It was by far one of our best meals during our nearly 3 week stay in Italy.

Room Tip: We didn't see the rooms that didn't have a canal view, but we would definitely recommend the double standard with canal view so that you can enjoy one of the best things about Venezia!

It's the best fo both worlds, close enough to walk to the tourist sites but far enough away to give it real atmosphere & character. It's a truly lovely B&B in a historic building (that was a part of a monastery I think?) with all the modern amenities to make your stay comfortable.
Venice was our 1st port of call in Italy & spending three nights at the Ponte Chiodo just added to the romance of Venice.
Mattia's instructions to get to his place are very precise. We reached there late in the night & found a welcoming cosy place, warm, neat & pretty as a picture. The streets are cobbles so make sure you travel light with a wheeled bag, so manouvering the streets of Venice with it are not a hassle.
Mattia's advice on where to see & eat & what to do are very helpful for those of us whose first visit it was. The casual, friendly atmosphere around the large breakfast table is a nice experience in itself, meeting people & sharing tips & advice. Vajira (a fellow SriLankan) who overseas the serving of breakfast makes a special cappucino when you're leaving that is very endearing. Thank you for all your help.
A truly lovely place to stay, highly recommendable!! Thanks Mattia, hope we get to stay at your charming place again.

Room Tip: The canal facing rooms are probably the best.

What a fabulous B&B! I arrived home yesterday after a truly wonderful last minute break to Venice. The reviews on this site sold me on Ponte Chiodo, and I wasn't disappointed. It's tucked away down a side street in Cannaregio, the old Jewish ghetto, so mainstream tourists might prefer to look elsewhere. But if you're after a glimpse into a Venetian's Venice, then this is the place for you. My room (which was upgraded at no extra cost) overlooked a gorgeous canal and was charming, comfortable and clean. Mattia, the host, goes out of his way to help, from his emails before I arrived, through to his witty company over delicious breakfasts and cappuccinos. He will (warmly) correct you on your Italian pronunciation, but having lived in Venice for most of his life you can trust him to provide you with invaluable information about fabulous local bacaros, the right way to cross the Grand Canal and his favourite peaceful piazzas. I can't wait to return!
