“5 star hotel at a 3 star price”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

The Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo was a fantastic place to stay. On a previous trip to Venice we stayed at a 5 star hotel (Europa Regina) which was very nice, but we actually enjoyed our time at HAPM better and it cost hundreds of dollars less a night. The location is very convenient, the staff could not be nicer, the rooms are spacious and well cared for, the breakfast is delicious and we actually slept. Since the location is perfectly situated off the beaten path, you avoid the crowds of tourists and noise, which can make for a less than pleasant time. The neighborhood is lovely, (grocery, bakery, restaurants, cafes) 5 minutes walk. The vaparetto stops 30 yards away.
A great plus was that one of the owners wives, Elizabetta, is a certified tour guide and arranged a wonderful walking tour and private boat tour for us.
I would recommend them without hesitation.

Room Tip: We stayed in the small suite in the annex. It was very large and quiet.

This is my second time staying here. The first time was for one night in December 2012 and we were so impressed by the service and the location of the hotel, we came back in May for a few nights. Sandro and Walter - who own the place are simply amazing. Not only do they make you feel at home, they practically know everyone in Venice so if you want to do something or need something, they are your guys. The location of this hotel is perfect. You are in a local area and not swarmed by crazy tourists...yet only a 15 minute walk to the major tourist attractions should you need to go. Venice hotels can be crazy expensive but Al Ponte Mocenigo is very reasonably priced all things considered and definitely is the best place to stay in Venice - hands down. We actually felt at home here. Highly recommended.

We stayed several nights in an Annex room, which had a high window facing towards other buildings. It was a little dark during the day, but was very quiet -- and lit up beautifully at night. Spacious and comfortable, with a small minibar fridge (with a little extra room for your own items). Breakfast was ample, with a selection of packaged yogurts, pitchers of fruit juice, and some sweet breads, plus croissants filled with apricot jam, hot from the oven. As others have said, the service was friendly and generous, yet never overbearing. They were extremely kind about making the occasional espresso in the afternoon, and offered to pack up some of those yummy croissants for us on the morning of our departure. On our next trip to Venice, this will be my first point of inquiry!

The hotel was in a great spot only 1min walk to S.Stae water taxi stop & a short, nice walk to Rillto. We stayed in the annex & were very pleased with the room which was quite large considering your in venice. The room was clean, the breakfast great, & the staff were lovely. I certainly recommend this hotel & would stay again!

Room Tip: If they offer the annexe don't be nervous, it's really very good

I have just returned from a wonderful few days in Venice with my husband, having stayed at the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. This hotel is genuinely as good as all the Trip Adviser reviews state. Sandro and Walter and the other gentleman on reception (apologies that I cannot remember his name) are all very helpful in directing you where you want to get to and helping you get out and about. They also booked all your evening restaurants and were anble to get us in wherever we chose, whether this was eating inside or out. They recommended 3 restaurants to us, all within walking distance of the hotel, and which were all very good and very reasonably priced. The quality and price were fantastic compared to the pricier alternatives you get near and around the Rialto Bridge / St Marks's Square areas. If you like good wine, you really must ask for the local house wine - it is a much cheaper alternative and is absolutely delicious regardless of how humble the establishment. You can usually get 1 litre of house white or 1 litre or a bottle of prosecco for between Euros 10 - 14.

The rooms in the hotel are very tastefully furnished and very clean. We were in the small double room behind the reception area on the first night and were moved to Room 6 for our remaining 2 nights, Room 6 being on the first floor. Room 6 is very nice and is well located with 2 windows overlooking the canal. The small double room behind Reception overlooks the back alleyway entrance to the hotel. However, we found that both rooms were quiet and we got a good nights sleep in both rooms - the only noise we heard from the small double room was at about 7am on the first morning when another guest shut the back door quite loudly. We did try to get the Superior double for all 3 nights, but as the hotel was fully booked, we had no alternative but to stay in the small double on the first night and then move to the superior double. Sandro was very helpful regarding our move and simply told us to leave all our cases / belongings in our room and that he would arrange for this to be in our new room by the time we returned from our sightseeing - he was as good as his word and we did not need to worry about a thing! Another trip adviser traveller had recommended asking for a matress topper on the bed, if you prefer a slightly softer mattress. We did this and I must say that the bed in both rooms was very comfortable. Both bedrooms we stayed in were decorated in a very elegant venetian style - you would never believe that you were in a 2 star hotel - the bedrooms are more akin to a 4 star and the bathrooms are quite modern.

The breakfast was a bit limited but more than adequate. There was fresh fruit, bananas, yogurt, cereal, rolls and delicious jam filled croissants. The Cappucino is a must, although we saw other guests also enjoying the hot chocolate. There really was plenty to eat and set you up for the day. All the ladies serving at breakfast were very attentive and helpful and were always smiling. The night porter was also excellent - on the day we were leaving, we were too early for breakfast so he ensured we had water and some cakes to take with us on our journey back to the Airport.

As to the location of the hotel - it is perfect. We were not quite sure when we landed at Marco Polo Airport whether we were going to get the Alilaguna or take the bus & Vaporetto. If you take the Alilaguna, this is a water boat that will take you directly from the Airport to the San Stae stop just by the hotel but it will cost you Euros 15 per person and is not covered in your public transport pass - a ticket needs to be purchased separately. We bought a 72 hour public transport pass (Euros 38 per person) and added on the return bus fare (Euros 6 per person) which meant that all our travel to and from the airport and all our vaporetto rides for our 3 days in Venice were covered under the one travel pass costing us Euros 44 per person which was fantastic value for money. The No.5 bus is so easy to find - you literally come out of the main doors of the Airport and look left for the number 5 bus stop - they run every 15 minutes. You get off at the Piazzale Roma (last stop on the bus route) and walk across the road to the vaparetto and look for the No.1 Vaparetto stop. San Stae is the fourth stop and you literally walk straight for 30 meters and then left down a very narrow alleyway to reach the back door of the hotel. It really is so easy to get to. Also the hotel is within a 5 minute walking distance of the Rialto Bridge, or you can hop on a vaporetto for a few stops. Our 72 hour pass meant that we were able to hop on and off the vaporettos all day and night which was very convenient and they run very frequently at every 10 minutes. You must remember, however, to swipe your pass before you get on the vaporetto. Also, please note that the pass literally lasts you for 72 hours from the time of purchase, even if this runs over 4 days. For example, we bought ours at 2pm on the Saturday and it was still valid for the morning of the Tuesday (4th day) when we left.

All in all, a fabulous hotel, in a fabulous location - we will certainly be booking to come back!!!

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a superior room - it is really worth the extra.

This is a beautiful hotel, very well located, clean and has the friendliest staff I've seen in a while. Prices are very reasonable too, and breakfast is lovely. We had a superior room in the annexe, and I was very surprised; can't believe the hotel only has two stars. Very clean, spacious, and well designed. I highly recommend this hotel! :)

This was our second stay in this hotel, and once again we found it first-class. The rooms are clean and spacious and decorated in a traditional Venetian style. The service is fantastic: very professional, personal and helpful. This hotel is great value for money.
