Owner description: Located near the landmark and arched Rialto Bridge (which you’ll see pictured in countless photos of Venice), this busy daily market stands in the commercial center of the city alongside the city’s famed Grand Canal. Venetian locals and international tourists alike frequent this centuries-old market for fruit, fish, and vegetables.

There are comments here for both food markets and touristic market on the other side.
I visted the Market (vaporetto stop Rialto Mercato) at 7.15am (before breakfast) and it was an experience I'll remember. There are only the stall holders and the venetian chefs there that early. The fish is so fresh it doesn't smell fishy. The store holders are setting out their stalls and singing along with the music! If you're an early bird, this is a must. Later on there are so many people you can't see what's on the stalls.

If you go along to the Rialto market, you will be in the real heart of Venice and see some local life too.
Firstly, the views from either side of the Rialto Bridge are some of the finest in Venice, a must for photographs. Walk across the bridge and you will find a street lined with tourist stalls, but of more interest perhaps are the famous old fruit, vegetable and fish markets which have been here for centuries and are still busy with locals buying their produce. Go in the morning when the market is at its busiest. Its possible to walk to the edge of the Grand Canal-fine views are to be had across towards the Ca D'Oro.
The small square contains one of Venice's oldest churches, San Giacomo, dating from the 11th Century, with an enormous clock.
This is also a good area to have an expresso in one of the many coffee shops, and of course to buy some fruit for a picnic meal at local prices.

I've been there last July and after the Venice Biennale I would say the market was the next best thing! It’s a colorful lively place where locals and tourists meet!

The Pescaria (fish market) and Erbaria (produce market), which combined make up the Rialto Market, have been located here since the 11th century. This is an exciting venue with which to mix with the local Venetians, and maybe purchase some fresh fruit to eat on a hot day. The hustle and bustle of daily Venetian life here is much more exciting to view than the hustle and bustle of the tourists crowding the nearby Rialto Bridge shopping for souvenirs. We arrived there at around 10am on a Thursday, and it was not all that crowded and we had an easy time navigating the aisles.
