“Residenza Castello...not as wonderful as promised.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

What first astonished us was the complete lack of welcome from the host, who met us only with his need of our passports, signature and city tax money. Not even a smile or extra word to wish us a pleasent stay, so the friendly atmosphere that was advertised, wasn`t really present. The appartment was light and nice, but smelled quite strongly of mould, and as we had to let fresh air in, we got bothered by the gnats, which gave us a poorly sleep and stressful nights. We enjoyed the terrace and the location was good, though the advertisement of the residens as a palace gave us a different picture of the place, then what met us.The splended view from the terrace over the historical senter of Venice, was in reality a view over the neighbour houses roofs. It was also quite simply furnished and equipped, not as elegant as the advertisement gave an impression of. In spite of all this, we did enjoy our stay in Venice, but I am sad to say that we would not choose Residenza Castello for a next visit or recommend it to others.

We stayed here for a few nights to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The apartment was very easy to find following the landlord's instructions, and within 5-10 mins walk of Rialto Bridge and San Marco. Really excellent location as you were away from the tourists but still very central for everything. Amazingly quiet as well. We were on the top floor, and the apartment was very spacious with a very comfortable bed, living area, dining area, mini kitchen and it also had a lovely roof terrace. Well equipped (though if you intend to do a lot of cooking could do with a few more pots and pans and utensils), and the local co-op is literally just round the corner for grocery shopping. Venice itself is a beautiful city like no other, and was wonderful to spend a few days without the sound of cars! Lots to see and do, but the best thing was just to stroll around and get lost and then discover hidden gems trying to find the way back. The 'famous' bits were a bit touristy for my liking, we preferred exploring the nooks and crannies away from the crowds! Also worth a trip to Verona for a day, and an explore around the beautiful island of Murano. And as everyone says, the gondola is expensive but it has to be done and is the best way to see Venice!

Nicely apartment within an easy stroll to Rialto and St Mark's. On high enough ground that we did not flood. Need to keep a good eye on the street numbers and run consectutively on each side on the street. One side can be #12 and the other side # 47. Phone landlord for entry code and pick up packet inside the entry way.
Building has 3 floors. The street level is for entrance only. The bar downstairs was a bit noisy until the shutters were closed. We had a 2 bedroom for 3 people, one floor up. There is no elevator. The kitchen had a few items stocked such as coffee, and dry condiments.
We were offered a trip to Murano, but the weather was too bad. We will take him up on the offer next time. And yes, there will be a next time.

This is a two-level apartment with 2 apartments at each level. We stayed there with my parents. The staff were available in the morning and accessible 24 hours. However, the gentleman taking care of the apartment was very kind and helpful. They also offer a free Murano tour, do not forget to ask for the tour. It was close to San marco SQ.

One of the rooms is a bit small and the bed was a bit noisy. The washing machine was really hard to operate. Please reduce the length of internet security password it was more than 30 characters. The wifi signal was poor in some apartments. I couldn't easily call the staff as I didn't have a simcard to operate in Italy.

It was also hard to find it but you can spot it by finding the alley (Calle Casseleria) then the apartment. I myself prefer to alight at San marco water taxi station and go to hotel instead of Rialto due to less bridges.

I found this place last minute in Nov and went for a long weekend with friends, we had a 2 bedroom. It was the perfect location, so close to Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square, both about 5 min walk. Clean and spacious apt with all the basic comforts, the fridge wasn't working but as it was quite cold we just used the windowsill and the owner offered us the keys of the apt across the hall as it was empty and we could use their fridge. Only thing was that it wasn't quite as warm as we would have liked, maybe there was some way to turn up the heating but we didn't know how...just ask next time I guess...we didn't spend much time at home since its Venice which is made for exploring...but it was the perfect home base since it was so close to two major landmarks that no matter where we went we could always find our way back. It is located above a bar/restaurant that can be a bit noisy but I am a heavy sleeper so didn't have any trouble...but for those who are light sleepers maybe request an apt on the 3rd Floor. Oh yes, and there is a supermarket 1 minute away!
