Arrived in Venice after a very long day flying from Seattle and were looking forward to being able to enjoy our first "adult" vacation in years. Fortunately, we had booked ahead with Alloggi Barbaria and we were not disappointed. Following their directions, we walked to the Aligluna boat dock and rode it across the lagoon, getting off at Ferrovia Nuove stop. Then it was a short, 10 min walk along the canal to the street where the hotel is! We were met by Tatianna, who showed us to our room, got us settled, and made some great dinner recommendations.

The rooms are not fancy, but quite adequate, clean, and quiet (I was surprised how quiet Venice can be, especially off of the Grand Canal). Met Fausto the next morning and he served us a lovely breakfast of rolls, yogurt, coffee, and juice. Some folks on TA seem taken aback by this, but it was just right for us, as we could then justify a mid-morning stop for Cappucino and pastries!. Wi-Fi worked only okay, as we were a long ways from the router, but who cares-- we're on vacation.
Overall: Outstanding!

A couple of notes: be prepared for stairs, as to cross most of the canals, you have to go up a dozen or more steps, then down again (Stupid me, I thought the bridges would be flat...).

Allogga Barbaria is a modest hotel that is quietly tucked away in a residential neighborhood in Venice. It was the perfect place for a family travelling on a budget - clean, convenient, quiet, and welcoming. As a family travelling with 3 teenage boys aged 18, 17 and 15, we booked a double room and also a triple. The rooms were spacious and clean, we had plenty of hot water, air conditioning, wall safes and free WiFi. Perfect. We arrived by train and took the 5.2 waterbus to the Ospedale stop. A short 5 minute walk down a narrow corridor brings you to the hotel. There was construction taking place so the corridor was actually covered by scaffolding and you walked beneath it, but we were never bothered by any noise from the site.

Don't be put off by the reviews of breakfast...the coffee and roll were perfectly fine, and the teens appreciated the Nutella that was provided. We were served breakfast on the patio (okay..the view was subtle...a wall!) by a kind gentleman who went out of his way to make sure we had plenty of coffee, etc. The reasonable cost of the hotel allows you to seek out culinary experiences elsewhere so for us, it made sense to stay here and spend our Euro's on tourist activities. We enjoyed wandering through the city, and you can find your way back rather easily following signs for "Ospedale" which I believe is Italian for "hospital".

I would gladly stay at Alloggi Barbaria again and recommend it to like minded tourists! It is a clean, quite, and friendly little place run by nice people.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the back courtyard which was nice and quiet.

We stayed here for 3 nights in Sept 2012 and it was great. Our room was huge, light and had air con. The staff cleaned our room every day which was a lovely surprise! It's in a quiet street about a 15 minute walk from St Marco Sq and 20 mins from Rialto, and there is a roof top terrace where they serve breakfast each morning. For the price, it's a great deal. Would recommend to anyone who's visiting Venice!

The hotel is small and cosy and with reasonable prices, the room we had was really spacious and really clean, with big, well equipped bathroom. Its location a little bit out of centre is an advantage: it was quiet at night and we had a "normal" (with normal prices in really expensive city) minisupermarket at the corner. It was also close to the water tram stop and the manager was very helpfull, not only during our stay, but also before (I had some questions via e-mail, he always answered them in few hours). The only thing to improve was breakfast: it was really nasty, with the cheapest croissant and tepid coffee in dirty cups. Blah! In spite of tis, I would recommend Alloggi Barbaria.

This hotel is easy to find from the water bus, is quiet, clean and comfortable. The rooms are large, quite sparsely furnished but adequate. The fridge and safe box were very useful. Breakfast is basic but enough to start the day on and the staff were friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again if we return to Venice one day.
