We wanted to stay somewhere close to S Marco Square but not too busy, so we chose this wonderful hotel in the Venetian Ghetto. It's a no frills choice- small, simple and clean with a wonderful location and staff. It was the perfect choice for us!

The first thing to not about the hotel is it is only about a 5 minute walk from the water bus and train stations, only a couple minutes further to Piazzale Roma (last stop for motorized transport- the city is pedestrian traffic and canals only). I had to walk with a cane due to a recently broken ankle, this made the walk take about 10-15 minutes for me- still easily done.

Every hotel in Europe has a ground floor, so the first floor is actually the 2nd floor by American standards. This is important to note no matter where you stay. The hotel did not have an elevator, but our room was thankfully only on the first floor so it was just one flight of steps. The room was small, but we had a triple so maybe there is more space in the rooms that don't have 3 single beds. The site we booked through said the hotel rooms had air conditioning- we failed to see the "available on request" in fine print though so our room only had an oscillating fan on the table. The good news is, by the time we got back each night it had cooled off some so it wasn't so hot it was unbearable and the fan did an ok job of keeping us cool once we opened the windows. The hotel is quite a ways down an alley, so there really wasn't a problem with opening the windows since the alley was a buffer from the bustle of people on the main walkway. I will also mention that the beds here were fairly hard, but we found that this is the case pretty much everywhere in Italy.

The staff here is amazing. They saw me with my brace and cane and were very helpful. When we got back the first night I asked for a bag of ice (there are no ice or vending machines) and they quickly and happily got one together for me. Every night after that they grabbed a new bag of ice for me when we arrived back for the night.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with air conditioning

We stayed here based upon reviews and the price. We had a triple room on the first floor (not the ground floor). We were somewhat disappointed that we did not have air conditioning - we did not read the fine print on our booking engine. However, we did not end up needing it and just opened our window. We did not have any problems with noise. The room was small but clean and comfortable although the beds are very firm. The staff here is very friendly and very helpful. My sister had issues with her ankle and they provided her with a bag of ice each night. The breakfast was what you would expect, but they did have a fancy coffee machine that made a wide variety of coffee drinks. The location of the hotel is VERY close to the trains station and also close to P. Roma. The price of the rooms are very reasonable when considering the proximity to transportation and also the fact that you are in Venice!

Pros: very close to train station - which is GREAT for Venice when traveling with luggage! Convenient for some restaurants. Clean and quiet. Breakfast provided. Good Wifi. Friendly staff.

Cons: Not all rooms have a/c. Most staff do not speak English. Some distance from main tourism attractions (hot for walking in July, so maybe traveling by water would have been the better option).

A small hotel with few amenities but very clean, quiet, great value, excellent location close to the railway station and drop off point for the boat from the airport and run by really friendly people.
The breakfast was good and it's easy walking distance to the Rialto and San Marco. The water buses all go from in front of the railway station which is no more than 5 minutes walk.
Downside is there is no lift so, if you think you might have difficulty lugging your case up narrow stairs, beware! It's also a little awkward to find as it's down a dodgy looking alleyway off the street it says it's on.
