We booked to stay here in Venice and was the first "hotel" we opted to stay at during our 4 week trip of Italy. So maybe I was expecting a bit more attention to detail than at the B&B's we had been staying at.
The room we were staying in was huge!! It was accommodated to be used for any handicapped guests (and wheelchair access) and while we did not require it for this reason appreciated the size and space of being able to spread out.
The overall cleanliness of the hotel was very good but in the bathroom where the tiling stops the mould begins - it is out of character with the rest of the room and so in an old building you know there are going to be "damp" issues but this was quite a big issue. The black mould went around the whole bathroom where there was no tiling. The large shower was wonderful but the unusual drainage in the shower to allow wheelchair access was a long strip and maybe not easy for the cleaning staff to clean as there was a build up of "black gunge" around the edge - again not totally disgusting but I know for some people they would find this not acceptable.
The Wi-Fi was broken the entire 4 nights we stayed and I reported it on night one. I understand that it requires a technician to fix it but for the whole time it made booking train tickets and looking up restaurant recommendations difficult. The reception wi-fi was working though so several guests would work from the chair in the reception whilst it was not working through the rest of the hotel.
The breakfast was continental and was fine. The two breakfast waiters were the most friendly in the hotel.
I booked our stay several months earlier and my most disappointing fact was on our last day pulled the booking reservation sheet out to check the cost and noticed that the reservation included a private boat to Murano and vouchers to the casino - whilst it is my fault for not reminding them of this - I was disappointed that the hotel themselves did not provide or remind us upon check-in.
So essentially - beautiful building, great location, staff nice but didn't go out of their way, large room, just wouldn't rave about it and when I look at value for money in comparison to other places I stay would rate as disappointing.
