Campo Santa Margherita is a really nice square in Venice. It's great to sit down and relax and have a good coffe. We were at a bar and the coffe was great, but we didn't see the name of the bar. Above the entrance was just a name plate that said "Caffe".
Since we were there in the middle of November, the place wasn't so crowded with tourists as it is in the summer.

After reading about it in the National Geographics travel book and on trip advisor, I was determined to see it! When I did, it was nothing I expected to see. I assume all the fun of a small non-touristic lively student square is happening during warmer times than November...a tiny but disappointment - will have to return to find the square that I imagined.

When we stay in Venice we hire a lovely apartment in Campo Dei Frari, this square is an easy walk from there and has vegetable and fruit stalls in the morning and on certain days fresh fish stalls, which saves the walk to the Rialto market. There is also a very good bread shop and a shop supplying household goods, candles, cooking utensils and that sort of thing which is handy if your self catering. Its a lovely place to walk to in the morning to stock up with fresh fruit etc.
There are a lot students in this area as it is close to the university. We were there during their equivalent of Freshers week and there were a great many young people having a high old time in the square on one evening when we passed through. They were all very well behaved and caused no problems to other users of the square.
There are several restaurants in the square and they do try and entice you in to eat at their establishments, which I find off putting, I have heard it be said that when in Venice do not eat at a restaurant that has to do this, only those that speak for themselves. We did eat at one one evening as we were going to San Vidal Church for a concert, the food was very average and I wouldn't repeat the experience.

A great place to sit and relax. Caffe Rosso, Pizza al Volo, Gelaterie Il Doge more cafes, bars, Osteria and a small morning fish market. A lovely situation.

This campo has lots of action: students, shoppers, diners and walkers. It is one of the few campos with trees, which makes it inviting, and there are several casual restaurants to choose from.
