We stayed in the Hotel Ca' Dogaressa at the beginning of January. It is small and family run, almost a cross between a B&B and a hotel. The owner warmly greeted us on our first night and spent a good ten minutes telling us about the surrounding the areas and what might be good to see and do whilst we were there. Our room, Double Classic, was quaint and quirky in that Venetian way. Our view was not great - looking out on other apartments but that didn't bother us. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom nice. Good shower. Breakfast was basic continental - croissants, cereal, yogurt, juice. Refills of coffee and tea were available.
The location of the hotel is great - it is on the canal, very close to the water bus stop. Be aware - the entrance is around to the side - we got an initial shock when it looked like the entrance was boarded up - but we just had to go the side to get it. There are nice restaurants and cafes and bars near by. It is very close to the Jewish Ghetto which is a must see. Marks Square is a 30 minute walk away - a nice walk if you go the back streets through the Venice where the Venetians live.
We met many members of staff and they were all very friendly. They all had good English so communication was no problem.
We would recommend this hotel for people looking for a place outside the tourist traps.

Room Tip: We would recommend staying in one of the suites overlooking the canal. We didn't. But we can imagine these would really add to your stay as you would be looking out at the everyday bustle of Venetians going about their business on the canal.

Beautifully appointed small hotel within easy walking distance of the train station. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Pretty little breakfast area, serving a traditional continental breakfast, or they will serve you in your room at no additional cost!

Cà Dogaressa
Fond. di Cannaregio, 1018, 30121, Venice, Italy,
Venice was the highlight of a month long tour of Italy and the best was kept for last. After booking and paying in advance for a room near the Guglio water bus stop we were not sure what to expect but what we found surpassed all our expectations. The building according to Danielo our host, was about five hindered years old, but the renovations were ultra modern. The room we were given was palatial, with not one but two bathrooms. The bathroom was ultra modern with towel heaters, twin vanities, a spa and shower with more settings than a flight deck. The included breakfasts were delivered to our room each morning with a sumptuous selection of pastries, coffee, yogurt and fresh fruit juices. The room itself was spotless, with a marble floor and wonderful heavy drapes and shuttered double glazed windows that opened onto a direct view of the canal. Great free high speed internet in the room. The hotel is an easy walk from the railway station even with luggage in tow, reasonably priced and immaculately kept. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to any family or friends planning a visit to this most magical of destinations.

Room Tip: We chose the best room as we were travelling with our eleven year old daughter so a sofa converted into a third bed.

You can book this hotel with confidence. The rooms are beautiful, the staff is friendly, breakfast is pleasant, and you can walk anywhere you need to or want to go (if you're reasonably fit and don't mind a leisurely stroll through Venice!). This was our first stop on a week-long trip Italy, and I'll just say that my husband had to pry me away from this beautiful hotel and city.
