“Lovely little hotel”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

Beautifully appointed small hotel within easy walking distance of the train station. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Pretty little breakfast area, serving a traditional continental breakfast, or they will serve you in your room at no additional cost!

Cà Dogaressa
Fond. di Cannaregio, 1018, 30121, Venice, Italy,
Venice was the highlight of a month long tour of Italy and the best was kept for last. After booking and paying in advance for a room near the Guglio water bus stop we were not sure what to expect but what we found surpassed all our expectations. The building according to Danielo our host, was about five hindered years old, but the renovations were ultra modern. The room we were given was palatial, with not one but two bathrooms. The bathroom was ultra modern with towel heaters, twin vanities, a spa and shower with more settings than a flight deck. The included breakfasts were delivered to our room each morning with a sumptuous selection of pastries, coffee, yogurt and fresh fruit juices. The room itself was spotless, with a marble floor and wonderful heavy drapes and shuttered double glazed windows that opened onto a direct view of the canal. Great free high speed internet in the room. The hotel is an easy walk from the railway station even with luggage in tow, reasonably priced and immaculately kept. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to any family or friends planning a visit to this most magical of destinations.

Room Tip: We chose the best room as we were travelling with our eleven year old daughter so a sofa converted i...

You can book this hotel with confidence. The rooms are beautiful, the staff is friendly, breakfast is pleasant, and you can walk anywhere you need to or want to go (if you're reasonably fit and don't mind a leisurely stroll through Venice!). This was our first stop on a week-long trip Italy, and I'll just say that my husband had to pry me away from this beautiful hotel and city.

Stayed here from 23 Nov 2013 for 3 nights and the recent reviews have said it all. Although the location may appear to be out of the way it really is not and the walk to St Marks and the area around there is not a problem if you are reasonably fit. Bus and train stations really are less than 10 minutes away too.
The staff were superbly helpful, the rooms spotless and breakfast set you up for the day. Yes, the breakfast room is not the largest but it really was fine.
Lots of restaurants and bars not far away and I know it was out of season but it was so peaceful and quiet.
We would return no question! Also received a very nice bottle of Prosecco as it was a celebration trip which was a lovely touch.

Room Tip: We couldn't get a room looking over the canal as we booked late. However, as we spent most of th...

By far the best way to arrive in Venice from the airport is by boat – you immediately feel you’re traveling somewhere special. The Alilaguna line takes you straight from Marco Polo airport to the Guglie vaporetto boat stop in 40 mins (e27 return) – Ca’ Dogaressa is 5 minute walk in a straight line from there – couldn’t be easier.

Having stayed in Venice hotels close to St Mark’s Square previously it was a relief to be staying in a quiet area away from the crowds. Several advantages to that – the local bars and shops are hugely cheaper than on the main tourist drags, with some good restaurants nearby as well as budget-priced places to eat such as Brek, and Majer for coffee and pastries. The railway station and Granad Canal with Vaporetto boats to all points in Venice and the islands is less than 10 mins away, the Rialto Bridge about 15 mins walk, and St Mark’s Square a further 15 – 20 mins walk – so despite the hotel being located in a quiet area, absolutely everywhere is in easy reach.

Some minor downsides: There’s only a tiny room for breakfast with just 8 seats, which meant one couple were queuing on one morning, although this is not going to be an issue in warmer months when tables are set outside by the canal. There’s no lift so the place is a complete no-no for people with mobility problems.

One thing I’ve not seen other Tripadvisers mention is that parts of the canal side close to the hotel get flooded during very high tides – I had to leave the hotel an hour early on departure day to avoid having to wade to the Vaperetto stop nearby.

These things aside, Ca’ Dogaressa really does have everything you need. Free Wi-Fi with a strong signal, TV with plenty of channels inc. CNN and BBC News, air con and good heating - Venice can be really cold in Winter - a fridge and room safe. Towels and bed linen were fine and replaced daily. My room and bathroom were exceptionally clean and maintained that way over a 4 night stay. Breakfast was OK by Venice hotel standards, including good quality hot coffee made any way you wanted. The hotel has no bar, but there’s a friendly modern bar two or three doors down – handy for nightcaps. The area is very quiet at night, with no noise heard from outside the hotel.

Staff were helpful and polite with someone on reception all night. Some staff had limited English but enough not to get the way of anything. The price for my stay was really competitive. Prices showing on the hotel’s own website were cheaper than the discount hotel booking sites and I was able to take advantage of a four nights for the price of three offer. I had no problems or hassles throughout my stay.

In a city with so many expensive yet average quality hotels, Ca’ Dogaressa is really a bit of a gem.

Loved this hotel. It's in a quiet location Cannaregio, not too far from the hustle and bustle, and an easy walk to the train station, with a vaporetto stop nearby.

The owner and staff were all truly hospitable and helpful. I felt comfortable from the moment I stepped into the lobby, and that is very unusual for me. I normally take a couple of days to get used to a place.

Breakfast on the canal (weather permitting) is a lovely way to start the day.

I'm not sure if a return trip to Venice is in the cards for me, but if it is, I would happily stay here again.
