“Basic. No Frills”
Reviewed November 23, 2010

3 night stay in early November. Room cleaned daily and a good standard of room although small. Its located in a small alley so easy to miss on first visit. Location is good for water taxies,Bus and Train station.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good .
I would say this is a budget hotel and on that note Breks, just to the right of the alley is excellent value for meals.

Everything is great about this place. Apart from: Nowhere to put anything - Very small wadrobe; No shower curtain - everytime you have a shower the bathroom floor is an inch under water. Otherwise great place to stay.

Our stay in this hotel was extremely unpleasant. The access to our room was through a little shabby courtyard, which also communicated with the alley at the back of the building. Strange activities went on in this courtyard at night, and we were kept awake until the early hours by misterious noises just outside our door. We thought these could relate to staff doing the laundry using a sort of machine which was in a cupboard in the courtyard. Neverthless, it would have been a weird thing to do at 1 am in front of the guest bedroom. Furthermore, there was a locked door in our room, which appeared to communicate with a toilet of another bedroom or a pubblic hotel toilet. People could be heard going in and out of the toilet all night. In one instance, somebody was clearly heard vomiting. After a poor night sleep, the poor breakfast did not certainly cheer us up. In addition to all this, the two members of staff that we met on the night of our arrival were quite unfriendly. Overall, we would not recomand this hotel, neither we would come back. However, to be fair, there were some posite points. The hotel location was good, with easy access to rail and bus station. The room was big, nicely furnished, and clean. However, there were mosquitos in the room, due to damaged mosquito nets in the windows.

Two days ago, my girlfriend and I returned from a 3-day trip to Venice, Italy. We stayed in a small nice hotel about 5 minutes (walking) from the central railway station. It was located in a small alley so the room was pretty quiet. The romm itself was clean and the bed was big. It was neatly furnished and the bathroom was very clean as well. In the room, there was a small refridgerator and an air condition.
The breakfast in the morning was a simple brekfast with bread rolls, ham, cheese, jelly, cereals, coffee, etc. The staff was very nice and spoke English fluently. Overall, I can say that the stay was very comfortable and I would definitely choose this hotel again.

Poor value for the money you spend and not worth the money you will save for staying at this tiny, ill-kempt hotel. The beds were flat and uncomfortable, the bathroom door didn't even close, the room was full of mosquitos because a broken air -conditioning system meant having to leave the french doors open, and there were no blackout shades so sleeping in was impossible.

The only plus to this hotel is its location which is just steps from the train station and a major hub for the water bus.

Don't be fooled by terms like "quaint" and "authentic" when what they really mean is outdated and dirty.

  • Liked — Location is close to train station
  • Disliked — Accommodations were uncomfortable

This hotel is initially a little difficult to find, hidden down a side street off the main path from the station. However, once you find it then it is a nice place to stay.
The location is excellent as it is easy walking distance from train station, bus station and to see the city, without any of the noise you would associate from a hotel right on the canal or on a main thoroughfare.
The double room we had was ornate, quite large with some beautiful furniture that wouldn't be out of place in a C.S. Lewis novel.
All of the staff were helpful and friendly and happy to help with anything we should need.

  • Liked — The helpfulness of the staff
  • Disliked — The lack of amenities and size of the hotel
