Enter the world of old Venice! This is one of the most peaceful, characteristic and "real" corners of the ancient Sestiere of Cannaregio with much local colour to be had. It's a peaceful neighbourhood to take cover from the tourist crowd while being close to the action of the main cultural, historical and artistic attractions - Rialto Bridge is an easy walk and Piazza San Marco is a 10 min walk away through picturesque Venice - part of the fun is discovering the local shops as you walk through the alleyways.

Ca' d'Oro is a three stars hotel overlooking the Rio Ca' Dolce but the main entrance is in Corte Barbaro. The good news is there is a lift! Downstairs is a lounge space to relax and socialise; and there is an internet point. This area amalgamates with the breakfast room where you have your buffet breakfast.

My Room was a double superior with private bathroom with hairdryer, direct telephone, satellite tv, wi-fi connection, safebox and airconditioning. It had a parquet floor and was agreeable, clean and functional with furniture in authentic venetian style. No complaints with anything.

Some reviews have said that the hotel isn't easy to find so here are some directions which I hope will be helpful. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from a vapaoretto stop.

If you are arriving by car - park your car in one of the garages in Piazzale Roma, the bus and car terminal or Tronchetto (on the right at the end of the Ponte della Liberta that connects Venice to the mainland). Take water shuttle line 1 (from Tronchetto, take line 82 to Piazzale Roma and change there) and get off at fermata Ca' d'Oro. Follow the directions I have put under By Train/Ca' d'Oro Stop.

By train - Take shuttle line 1 in front of the Santa Lucia station towards San Marco/Rialto and get off at the Ca' d'Oro stop. Take Calle della Ca' d'Oro. Turn right onto Strada Nuova. Continue to the first open stretch, Campo dei Santissimi Apostoli. Turn left onto Salizada del Pistor. Continue for 100 metres until you pass Corte Barbaro on your left. You'll now see the hotel.

By plane - from the Venice Marco Polo Airport (13 km)
Via water - From the airport's dock, take the Alilaguna motorboat, blue line, and get off at Fondamenta Nuove. The hotel is a 5 minute walk. Head away from the stop and continue along the street. Take Salizada dei Spechieri. Go straight. Cross Campo dei Gesuiti and then cross the bridge. Continue along Salizada Seriman. Then turn right and then take an immediate left over the bridge. Travel down the length of Calle dei Spezier. Continue straight on Rio tera Santi Apostolio. Turn right on Calle del Tagiapiera. Take your first left at the end of the calle and you'll see Corte Barbaro and the hotel.
Via land - Take ACTV bus nr. 5 or one of the shuttle buses for Venice. Get off in Piazzale Roma (the bus and car terminal) and follow the directions I have put above under By Train/Ca' d'Oro stop.

From the Treviso airport Canova (33 km)
Take one of the shuttle buses for Venice. Get off in Piazzale Roma (the bus and car terminal) and follow the directions I have put above under By Train/Ca' d'Oro stop.

Top tip: eat and drink where the locals do, you will be overcharged in a tourist restauraunt, but have the time and meal of your life when you go off the tourist trail and eat with and meet locals. Oh, and for those saddos among you - there is a mcdonalds about 5 mins walk away too.... !!

Location: 2 minute walk to Ca' d'Oro water bus station where you can take No:1 boat to almost all major tourist attractions in Venice (buying a 2-3 day ticket helps), there are many restaurants, supermarket and other shops very close-by
You can walk to most of the attractions maximum 30mins but if you dont fancy that then water buses are very frequent
Price: very reasonable for such an expensive city
Staff: Very friendly and polite, they love kids
Room: clean, good size, got all basic amenities that you can need
Breakfast: Continental with plenty to choose from

This hotel was exactly what we wanted. We were looking for a triple, that was in a quieter area of the city. Not too far from a vaporetti stop, plus easy walking to the Rialto Bridge or along the shopping area to St Marks.

I stayed in hotel Ca' d'Oro in January, just before the carnival, the hotel is within easy reach of the city main attractions, I actually walked to the hotel from Piazza Roma and it took me only 20 minutes, the hotel is easy to find, very close of Chiesa dei Santi Apostoli, close to Rialto Bridge and around 20 minutes walk to St Mark square, I stayed in a single room, it had decent bed, WC, shower and a canal view, on the top of the hotel there is a nice terrrace with a nice viewover the town. The breakfast was really yummy, fresh rolls, croissants (con crema, cioccolate), nice coffe machine, tea selection, fresh fruits. The hotel has a very friendly staff, and nice lobby. Good value for money, I would stay again for sure.

The Hotel Ca D'Oro is ideally situated for exploring Venice. Located centrally and a three minute walk to the Vaporetti (Water Bus) stop at Ca D'oro, it couldn't be a better base to explore Venice from. The Hotel is situated in an old building on the edge of a canal. Some rooms have views over the canal. The inside has been modernised, but retains the Venitian style of furnishing. The lowest price rooms are small, the 'luxury' rooms are larger, but are all very clean, with ensuite bathrooms.
With only 27 rooms this is not a large Hotel and has a friendly and helpful staff. The buffet breakfast has a good selection, although the dinning space when busy is cramped, but this is Venice where space is at a premium!
Finding the Hotel can be a problem, the entrance is just an opening off one of the many narrow passage ways into a courtyard, and understanding the inexplicable house numbering system that the Venitians use.
I would certainly recommend this Hotel as a mid priced Hotel that is considerably better than many others in the same price range.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view you might be lucky.

We liked this hotel very much, it's central but quiet. The rooms are nice and cosy and very clean. The breakfast buffet was good. Tea or Coffee making facility or a drink machine would have been a bonus and we would have made the rating into an excellent (there were no hot or cold drinks readily available because the receptionist was very busy). But all together this is a good hotel, and reasonably priced.
