“Great experience!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We had a superb dinner at Covino with Andrea (owner) and Dimitri (chef). You share a small intimate space and atmosphere with other 12 clients in a tiny, cosy bistro.
The menu is written on a board and has a well balanced mix of fish and meat courses.
Great attention to ingredients and a superb list of natural wines.
Don't miss it but do not forget to book at least a couple of days in advance.

“Great small hidden place!”
Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

A very small and hidden place located outside the traditional turistic places of Venice! Only two people working, making the service somehow slow, but that was not a problem. Great food choices and specials as well as different wines with a very reasonable price. Please get there early as they have only one service per meal (that is what I understood).... I was lucky!

“I little gem of a restaurant.”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

An intimate dining experience as you surround the food preparation area. 14 diners, max. A cook and an "everything person". Andrea was our everything person, and he seamlessly took our orders, suggested wine, prepared and served our appetizers and dessert, cleared our plates, loaded and unloaded the dishwasher, and when I asked, played a long selection of Mario Biondi on the stereo. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, but the dining experience went well beyond the food. I have dined in a restaurant/kitchen setting before but never like this...this was performance art...bravo to Andrea and the owners of al Covo...this is a little gem of a place. Not recommended for families with young kids as you will ruin it for everyone else.

“Very good food, very reasonable price”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

We were referred to Covino by our guide. It was a wonderful recommendation. This is a tiny restaurant -- seating only 14 people. And it has two seatings per evening, at 7:15 and 9:15 pm, so reservations are essential. The kitchen is open to the rest of the restaurant, so you can see Andrea preparing the cold entrees, while Dimitri prepares the hot ones. The fixed price menu is 33 euros per person, which includes a glass of wine. We started with a homemade prosecco, which was delightful. The bread bag was filled with sesame sticks that were buttery, flaky and hard to stop eating! For our first course, we opted for the pasta with anchovy sauce; absolutely delicious. The spaghetti was slightly al dente and the sauce didn't taste "fishy" at all. For my main course, I had pan-seared cuttlefish that was perfectly cooked; very moist. Unfortunately, the others in my party were not as pleased with the sausage main course they had ordered; they complained it was bland and not on par with the pasta first course. Three of us finished with Diane's chocolate cake -- a very moist, not too sweet chocolate cake that was a perfect finish to the meal. I ordered the cheese platter for dessert; that was so so (but I shared in the others' chocolate cake so I was not disappointed). The service was attentive. HIghly recommended, especially considering the price, for fine dining in Venice.

“A welcome change from the norm.”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stumbled across the Covino and we were instantly attracted to the smart Interior and the fact that you could see the food been prepared. The waiter was very friendly, welcoming and passionate about the food and where it came from. Each course was excellent and not a slow as they infered. The final bill including wine was less than 45 euro's per person. The rest of the restaurants in Venice could learn a few lessons from these young men.
