Owner description: The Orchestra I Musici Veneziani was formed in 1996 and owes its prestigious name to the carefully considered selection of some of the most accomplished of Venetian virtuosos. The Orchestra pays tribute to Vivaldi performing the "Four Seasons" and, with Sopranos, Mezzo-Sopranos, Tenors and Baritones internationally acclaimed, performs "Baroque and Opera," the most beautiful arias of the Baroque period. The concerts, enhanced by exquisite 18th costumes and jewerly, are performed in the wonderful Salone Capitolare, on the first floor of the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro in Rialto, where in addition I Musici Veneziani enact the most famous and beloved Opera of the great Giuseppe Verdi: "La Traviata".

An excellent night at the opera that cost my fiance and I 40 euros together. A standard ticket is between 25-35 euros but for all of you who can pass for a student it will cost 20-they dont ask for student id.

We wanted a little bit of Venetian golden-age glamour, so booked tickets for this concert ( they seem to run almost constantly, so there'll be something on when you go).
We went for a "Baroque and Opera" selection, which had a few tunes in there you'd recognise, whatever your musical background.
OK, the wigs needed a bit of attention, and some of the ladies could do with a few lessons on how to walk elegantly in those huge dresses, but as a fun night out, with some genuinely good performances (the baritone absolutely nailed "Largo al factotum" from the "Barber of Seville" !!!!) it's well worth 25/35 Euro.
If you do go, please do as we did, and enjoy the setting and the music, and don't spend half the concert staring through your iPhone/iPad ( people weren't supposed to take photos or film, but several inconsiderate ones were doing just that, which is rude for the performers and other ticket-buying audience members). It's Venice - remember the experience using the best tool for the job - your mind!

My wife and I attended last night's performance, which featured Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The male soloist was extraordinary and the six women who performed with him (and in two other pieces without him) were also very talented. All seven wore period outfits and the acoustics in the hall were excellent. I was carried away by the maestro's compositions (again) and by the performance. They start on time and move right through the program--with a short intermission. Strongly recommended.

OK, they are not the first figures in any opera company, but the setting is very nice, the room is cosy and elegant, prices are either 25 or 35 €, and you get a hance to see-hear-enjoy a very nice evening. Ahh, and the singers come dressed in 18th century clothes. Really nice experience, even for those (like me :) who do not really like opera...
