On the occasion of my wife birthday, we were looking for accommodation for five people at a prime location in Venice. Four out the five of us had been to Venice several times and we wanted something more spacious and less restricting than hotel rooms so we could do some self-catering as well as eating out. We had had good previous experiences of apartments in Santa Maria Formosa and near San Marco so were thinking mainly about apartments. After looking at the options, we settled on the Grassi apartment in the Palazzo Morolin opposite the Ca' Rezzonico/Palazzo Giustinian on the Grand Canal. This proved to be an excellent choice. The apartment is large ( entrance hall, large living/sitting room, dining room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen with a dishwasher and washing machine), located on the 2nd floor of a 17th century palace and only one minute from the San Samuele vaporetto stop ( Vaporetto no 2). We ate in twice, buying food at the Rialto market and local shops/supermarkets. On the other nights we visited good local restaurants. The apartment is about a 5 minute walk from the Accademia Bridge and 15 minutes from San Marco so also excellent to visit museums, galleries etc. From a financial standpoint, it is also probably cheaper than accommodating 5 people in three decent hotel rooms. If you want a good experience of Venice with fabulous Grand Canal views out of the sitting room/dining room windows and one of the bedrooms, give this place a thought.
Having used Truly Venice before and being very impressed with their arrangements, we booked week in the Grassi Apartment for the first week in June.
Truly Venice arranged a water taxi for us from the airport and we arrived at the apartment after traveling down the Grand Canal under the Rialto Bridge. The apartment is on the Grand Canal and the views are stunning.
The 2nd floor apartment is stunningly beautiful and also very light and airy. Everything that we needed was there and it was spotlessly clean.
The water bus stop is only 2 minutes away but the area around the apartment is very quiet. There are some lovely local bars and restaurants 5 minutes away, and also a grocers and wine shop.
A few minutes further and you are in Campo San Stefano with the crowds, cafes and restaurants. Plus it's only a leisurely 15 minutes to St Marks Square.
We will definitely return through Truly Venice and would recommend the apartment to anyone who wants a lovely quiet apartment that's only minutes from all the tourist places.
We enjoyed staying in this apartment. It had a great view of the canal. The rooms were large though the decorating was severely dated. We found the apartment building to be safe, quiet and peaceful, which was important.
We stayed at Grassi for a week in September this year (2013) and it was even better and more beautiful than we expected. One of our group of 5 (my husband) had broken his foot only 2 weeks prior to our vacation, but the convenience of an elevator and the nearby vaporetto stop (San Samuele) made it easy for him to get around. Everything was perfect and Daniela was extremely helpful. Her Truly Venice website made choosing an apartment easy, and the inclusion of floor plans is brilliant. Having a water taxi reservation in advance made everything easier and when we left, the taxi was at our vaporetto stop at exactly the time Danila had arranged. All in all, great service, great location and great apartment made for lots of fun. We will definately recommend Truly Venice to anyone and everyone!
