I cannot quite explain this. The restaurant was dead posh, the food was well prepared and the wine was excellent. But still somehow my wife and I felt curiously disappointed at the overall experience. It may have had something to do with the interior - the combination of the baroque decoration, the lighting and closely placed tables felt quite oppressive. And the food simply didn't set us on fire as we had expected from reviews. The service was erratic and we did not feel particularly well attended.
I'm giving it a 3 because it seemed only average compared to other restaurants of this reputation and price
A plus point was the excellent and beautifully laid out bar in the hotel, which felt like stepping back in time. The barman makes a fantastic dry martini.
