My wife and I (both early 40's) stayed at Margherita House for 3 nights (July 29th - August 1st) and were completely blown away at first sight of our room. It was absolutely beautiful, extremely modern and art deco, complete with high end hardware. The lovely colour contrast in terms of the decor, was very nice and the room spotless.
This is the first room we have stayed in which had keyless entry, a simple entry code was all that was needed to access the room. There is also ample security on site with respect to security cameras and an in room safe, large enough to store a laptop. There is also a mini fridge which is always handy to have for storing food/drink items.
The bathroom was very spacious with a large shower. The air con worked feel and was quiet. We had 3 large windows in our room which looked out onto Campo Santa Margherita Square, which was a fantastic view in itself. We found that the square was lively both day and night. During the day there were several vendor carts set up, selling anything ranging from fruit, vegetables, fish, etc.
As well, there were numerous restaurants and pizzeria's located around the square so there was no shortage of dining options. While the day crowd was somewhat active, the night action was a lot more lively, usually consisting of younger 20 to 30 somethings who gathered to socialize. We even sat out on the patio across from our room, enjoying a drink and taking in the festivities! Don't let this stop you from staying at Margherita House, this place is extremely soundproofed from the outside noise.
We were however, amazed that while the outside world noise was prevented from coming inside the room, we did find on occasion the noise from the adjoining room could be heard. Fortunately this was no big issue during our stay, simply an observation. The free wifi worked well and so did the flat screen television.
I will also mention that just as we arrived, the sky's opened up so we avoided having to take cover from the rain (which only lasted a short time). In any event, we were immediately met by the owner Etienne, who was an absolute gentleman. He proceeded to walk us through the workings of the room, including how to use the entry controls, air con, etc. He also gave us suggestions on places to eat and where to shop for groceries.
It was abundantly obvious that a great deal of thought, planning and work went into creating this property, making it a true pleasure to have stayed here while visiting Venice. I will note that this property was a short walk (approximately 10 minutes) from the train station (Stazione Venezia Santa Lucia) and is located in the Dorsoduro district, a welcome retreat from the tourist packed San Marco district, however, close enough to walk into the various neighbourhoods. Also, keep in mind that this is not a hotel concept, whereby you can expect to have your room cleaned daily.
Without a doubt, we will definitely stay at Margherita House on our next visit to Venice!!
