Loved it! Location was tricky but actually pretty central if you want to hit most of the town within a couple of days. Staff was great, food was good.

We just returned from our 4 night stay at Ca' San Polo and we were delighted with the professionalism of the staff. Upon our arrival in Venice we made our way to the hotel by vaporetto and with the help of a street map became hopelessly lost! Please please please google map your directions to this hotel. There are several streets in Venice with the same name. We called the hotel and Alberto (awesome!) was happy to walk us there over the phone. Apparently this is quite common. The room was small but absolutely charming and spotless. Also very quiet. The breakfast is my only slight complaint. The tables were not cleaned up very quickly and the choices were limited. Still, we managed and what was there was quite good.

Great little place in central location - a bit hard to find, though, when you first arrive. On the plus side, the staff is very helpful and pleasant - breakfast is wonderful, bath towels are oversized. Unfortunately, we were unable to unlock the door of the apartment which we had reserved, and had to drag our luggage back to the hotel in the dark, over bridges, etc. The owner was unapologetic for all our trouble, insisting the he had been able to open the door, even though his own staff person was unable to do so. Customers shouldn't have trouble opening the door to their apartments. The room we were given instead was a really tight squeeze for 4 people, and we had to insist on a price reduction from the originally reserved apartment.

This was an excellent choice. Granted we only stayed for two days, but a week's stay would have been just as pleasurable. The Ca Polo is run by young people, who seem to spare no expense on quality. The person we talked to was from Padua and told us that the building was 600 years old, which is why the floors in the immaculate and well-
decorated rooms were a little on the incline. This is Venice after all! The bathroom was clean and modern. The breakfast was almost too generous (other, more frugal guests were getting "doggy bags") for the day.

The only negatives, as mentioned above by other guests, were the hard-to-find location (every place except the worst - and touristic - places are hard to find in Venice); but the best way is to get off at the Sant Tomá vaporetto stop and follow the signs to the Ferrovia; at a certain point there is a sign for the Ca' Polo itself; and the other drawback was the lack of a view from the window.

One unexpected find was a trattoria nearby which was relatively cheap and served typical Venetian food, including seafood, polenta and fegato (liver) alla veneziana.

We were two older ladies on our first trip to Venice and found the hotel fairly easily with help of website map and signs on the walls. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. showed us around the hotel while we waited for them to change the beds into twin rather than a double. Breakfast was filling and kept us going until lunchtime very adequately. The room was about the size of an average hotel room and considering how we had been told how expensive Venice is we felt we got a good deal.

We walked from the train station after an overnight trip from Paris. It is not really a 5 minute walk though. We were very tired and lugging our suitcases over 15 bridges only to find we were on the wrong side of the island was frustrating. However a very nice Italian man called the hotel and helped us get proper directions. We finally found the hotel (look for the little yellow signs!) but were too early to check in. The staff was very accomodating and held our luggage while we went to get some lunch and wine. When we did return, we were encouraged to upgrade (pay a little more) for a superior room. It was worth it! The room was small but very comfortable, charming, and clean. The location was central to everything. I recommend staying here and if you do, be sure to go to the roof (aka: smoking area) with a bottle of wine at around sunset (7:45pm) pm in the summer. You will get an incredible view of Venice and if you time it right, hear all the church bells from all over the island at 8pm. Also, I must mention that the desk clerk is quite handsome according to my 18 year old daughter!
