“Great blend of close and far”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Close enough to just cross the canal and walk to whatever you want, yet far enough away for a very peaceful night. The main popular areas of Venice are frequently under construction/restoration, and the night life can be a little loud, so if you are looking to travel into the city to see the sights, but want a full night's rest so you can do it the next day, this is a great place to stay. Two warnings: both the bed and shower are European, meaning smaller and less comfortable than Americans are used to. Other than that it is a great stay, with a great staff (also their full mini bar deal was pretty good!)

We struggled to find a decent, well priced hotel in Venice and so weren't expecting much. The Domina turned out to be fantastic, very clean and the staff were incredibly helpful.

The only thing that needs improvement is the breakfast - it was awful. All pre-packaged and the coffee came from a machine.

We stayed there for four nights at end of October. Great location and price with good facilities. Lovely staff, led by the very helpful Andrea for whom nothing was too much trouble. Doesn't look like a hotel from the outside, but that makes the surprise even greater when you walk through the front door.
Has everything you need for a great city break and would certainly stay there again.
Just one niggle, the AC wasn't working, so had to sleep with the windows open and brave the mosquitoes!

Stayed in October 2013 in a lovely room. A relaxing place near Palanca vaporetto stop. Giudecca is one stop across the basin, then a two minute walk to the grand canal. We loved the restaurant next to the Redentore church, and the local canal front shops. The hotel has free wi-fi and offers 4* at a cost of three nights for a four night stay. Staff were helpful and the mini bar can be entirely consumed for 15 Euro. Palanca snack bar was heaven for breakfast. Would go back tomorrow.

Location is a bit of a surprise wen you arrive in the evening, bet when the day breaks it turns out to be a very positive advise. when you leave the hotel and come at the end of the narrow alley you hav ea magnificent view on venice, on the othe rside of the canal

Beautiful 2 day stay at this lovely and quiet hotel away from busy tourist attractions;
Staff was really friendly and helpful- gave us a map and told us what to do for our stay; morning breakfast is alright - however we did enjoy two places to eat on Giudecca - La Palanca- great for breakfast and lunch- great quality and great service; you will meet the locals- sandwiches are fresh and well priced, same with the coffee,tea and wine; Also for dinner if you like fresh fish or seafood I recommend AL Storico da Crea- amazing fresh fish; Great food in Venice- we loved the location, people and food! Enjoy your stay!

Room Tip: requested a canal view room; it was lovely;

We travelled to the hotel by Vaparetto, stopping at the nearby Palanca stop in about 20 minutes from Roma (bus terminal). Followed the directions from TA and got there without issue. A very unassuming building from the outside but once inside we were very happy with our choice. Only a couple of stops from St Marks Square and plenty of vaparettos to get you there. A few places to eat nearby not forgetting the Skyline bar at the nearby Hilton hotel. There is a small supermarket nearby on the waterfront where you can pick up a bottle of wine, prossecco or a beer or 2 which, after paying the sky high prices in Venice, came as a welcome surprise! The rooms at the hotel were great, very clean and tidy with small fridge and kettle, etc. Our room (206) was the only one with a balcony, looking out over a quiet canal. Breakfast was sufficient and the staff couldn't be friendlier. We would recommend this hotel to stay if you wish to get away from the often mad crowds in Venice.

Room Tip: room 206 is the only room with a balcony (overlooking a quiet canal).

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The hotel is on the Giudecca Island, the largest one of the Venice lagoon with its eight islands connected by typical bridges. In this context with its backwater charm we find the Hotel Giudecca, an elegant building in a vaguely retro style far away from the tourist bustle of the historical center. In its renovation, this architectural lagoon gem has preserved the traits and the value of its incredible past. A private dock on the Palada Canal provides a water entrance. The 30 rooms have kept an ancient and sophisticated line though offering the most contemporary comforts and amenities. The hotel is the ideal starting point for those who want to live and experience the real Venice in its authentic bohemian style: the Venice which reminds the aristocratic salons, the intrigues and legends. The Venice of the fishermen, of the artisans who have chosen a long time ago to base on this island their own businesses, but also of the fugitives who fled here over the centuries. All this at a short distance from the heart of the city: San Marco Square which can be reached from the hotel by boat in a few minutes. ... more   less
