After having researched hours for hotels in Venice (incl Venice Mestre), we zeroed in on DHG with one main worry on our mind - "It's not on the main island". But after reaching the hotel, we were absolutely delighted at it's location. It was really easy to reach by the vaporetti, with superb connectivity to all the other islands. In fact, it was so well connected that we ended up exploring many other islands apart from the main island well into the evening. We stayed for one night here. I've rated the hotel based on parameters most important to me.

Location: 5/5
Vaporetti station - Palanca - is just a small bridge away. The hotel is just a few meters from the island's main street which is lined up with restaurants and great views of the main island. It is also located close to the backside of the island, which also has good views of the mainland. With most of the sights just a vaporetti away, I would prefer NOT staying on the main island.

Reception service: 5/5
Having reached Venice by a night train, we reached the hotel by 11 AM. As the check-in time was mentioned as 2 PM, we were a bit apprehensive if we had to wait till the check-in time. We were however pleasantly surprised and relieved that we were offered a room immediately upon arrival. The reception desk was really helpful (esp Guiseppe) who suggested to us about visiting Burano, which actually turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip to Venice.

Size and quality of the rooms: 5/5
The room was very spacious, with ample space for our suitcases. The bathroom was resonably sized. The room ambience and lighting was relaxing. There was no view from the window though (which I didn't mind as we came back to our room only after nightfall) . The room (and the bathroom) were very clean.

Wifi: 3.5/5
There was no wifi in the room which was off-putting. Also every time we logged into the wifi at the common area, it was a slightly long procedure of having to go to the hotel's home page and enter the password.

Breakfast: 4.5/5
There was enough variety to have a hearty breakfast. Especially if you want to start your day early.

Overall: 5/5
Apart from the wifi and the non-English tv channels, I hardly found anything wrong with the hotel.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for the Venice map at the reception. Also there is a "La Biennale di Venezia" art exhibition which is on till October '13, which is a few vaporetti stops away from the hotel. Do check it out.

My husband and I stayed here three nights precruise in May. We loved being away from the hustle of mainland Venice. I followed a prior TA instructions on directions to find the hotel (which were super helpful). The front desk staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The only items where there could be improvement are including wifi in room and getting rid of the horrid espresso machine in breakfast (simple black coffee would be better and less expensive I would imagine). Overall a great stay and I would come back again.

I recommend a pizzeria restaurant which is located a block or two east of the island (on the coast) over Trattoria Ai Cacciatori which is very close to the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor and had no issues. We had a tiny window view of a canal.

There is nothing significantly wrong with this hotel. It was clean and pleasant and the staff were certainly very helpful and friendly. The room was of a good standard. There were only three thing that were disappointing. 1. The room had no external view - the window looked out towards a wall (clearly not true of most of the rooms but you might want to avoid room 12); 2. The shower temperature tended to go from pleasantly hot to very hot in 30 second cycles (not so bad you could not cope, but irritating); 3. There was no where outside where you could sit and enjoy the sunshine. We ended sitting on the bridge outside the hotel with a cup of tea.
You get what you pay for and I expect some of the rooms are great but none seemed to have balconies
Staying on the island was no problem as it is an easy ride on the water bus into the main part of town. It was certainly quieter here but that was a plus. Somewhat limited in easy walk restaurants.

Room Tip: Avoid room 12

Wonderful hotel in Venice. The room was large, quiet, clean and well decorated. The bathroom had recently been completely renovated. Staff was very helpfull and polite. It is not located on the main section of Venice, therefore, it is out of the way a little.

Just had a fabulous stay at this hotel--charming in a very private part of Giudecca island just a few minutes water bus ride from central Venice. The staff are just fantastically firendly, courteous, and helpful!
