“6.5 out of 10. JUST OK”
Reviewed August 18, 2010

We stayed at this hotel to celebrate our one year wedding anniversay, I would say this would be a upper end 3.5 star hotel. I had emailed the hotel directly to give them heads up as I really wanted this stay to be a special one. Out of the two weeks we were in Europe, I had planned Venice as the place to celebrate our offical 'one year'. They had emailed me and said i was booked in a superior canal facing room, like they were doing my a favour, but that is exactly what i was paying for!

Location - As many have pointed out, it is abit of a nightmare trying to find this hotel as you have to go down a few of side narrow streets to get there. It is not far from all the action St Marc Square and all the shops and restaurants.

Rooms - After we checked in, we went to our 'superior canal facing' room, which was on a lower floor, we thought the decorating of the rooms was unique compared to the other hotels we stayed at, with the 18th century style decorating. The canal view they gave was was very poor, if you looked down you could see the canal but I would not go so far to say it was romantic in any way shape or form. Another building was overlooking ours, with ratty clothes hanging down the side, so keeping the blinds open was not an option. The hotel's "ground rules" listed on the elevator seemed abit demanding, no outside food or drinks in the hotel room other than eating from their mini bar? No ironing in the rooms? The air conditioning was fairly loud which i found abit annoying. There also was a small 17" LCD computer monitor that was also our television, one english channel, but very hard to watch.

Staff and Service - We found the staff pleasant enough but I would not go as far to say they were extremely friendly or helpful at all, seemed more concerned about watching the security cameras or reading the paper. They knew we were there for our one year anniversary, and they had made no effort what so ever to even say "congratulations" We woke up abit late for breakfast one morning, so we arrived at 10:15, and breakfast ended at 10am. the food was still out and a couple of people were still eating, so we just grabbed a plate and started to eat - well, the recpetionist came up to us and not even politely she scolded us for being late - we were ok with that as we knew we were. A few minutes later the cleaning staff for the eating area seemed visibly upset with us and she said something to another worker - we were then scolded on a second time. I thought this was abit overboard, we are not children, we got the point, and to scold paying clients the way they did was not right either. In the service industry you have to be nice about things like this, that is my opinion. And speaking of the food, breakfast wasn't anything special, a small selection of food, the only real good thing about it was the coffee. One last thing about the service, we had asked for a late checkout for 2pm, as our flight was not leaving until 5, they told us they were very busy and had to get the room ready. Which we understood. no problem. we left our luggage in the lobby and walked around. We came back to the hotel at 2:30 and i sat down to rest. Then i noticed the maid just going in the room to start cleaning it, I was not too impressed with seeing that. Felt abit dishonest to me, they could have just told us they don't give late check outs.

Overall, I was happy enough with our stay, I was hoping it was going to a memorable one year anniversary but it didn't quite live up to what I was expecting. If you can get a good price for this hotel, I would say stay there, but if i were to go back again, I would DEFINITELY find another hotel as there are likely well over a hundred hotels in or around the Square, as we soon found out during our touring around the area.

Just returned from a 4 night stay in Ca 'del Campo, Venice. The hotel was in a great location, close to all the local sights. Although we had quite a small room, it was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was very nice and with good service.

Would definately stay here again, although would visit Venice at a different time of year to miss the crowds!

This was the perfect location for us, just 5 minutes walk from St Marks Square, and as we hadn't been to Venice for over 20 years it was easy to get to and orientate ourselves from. The hotel was immaculately clean, and we rented a "family room" which is always a bit of a gamble with two tall teenagers in tow. They gave us a fantastic 2-roomed suite on the top floor, with 2 bathrooms. (I would recommend you request it) It was spacious and well-furnished, and we will definitely return to this great hotel. The breakfast was more than adequate, and the staff were very helpful. I saw another comment about how to find this hotel which was really useful. Walk under the clock in the main square, go straight on, and then turn right at the Ferrari shop, walk around the Church, keeping right, and then turn left, and the little street is just on your right (with a great little bar/cafe on the corner). And, the air-conditioning worked!!!!

The hotel is situated a short distance from St. Marks square. Many nearby facilities and the local canal runs a few steps from the front door. Good air conditioning in the rooms. Staff were helpful and multilingual. A local strike by the the Vaparetto(water bus) was advised to us by the staff so we could tailor our movements around the reduced transport. Did not appear to be any "hidden extra" charges in the rates. Accomodation was very clean and rooms were made up by early afternoon ready to return to. The poor exchange rate with the £ made the hotel a little expensive but this is obviously not the fault of the hotel.. All in all a recommended hotel.

Half way between San Marco and Rialto, the hotel was so quiet we felt we had it to ourselves. We had a suite next to the front desk, which initially concerned me, but it was very quiet. Perfect for a family with older children, as they had their own room with sink, while we had a master with a bathroom. A/C is appreciated for the quiet and to beat the humidity, although the windows do open. First floor has 20' ceilings and chandeliers in the rooms. Continental breakfast was good, with coffee fresh brewed for each guest.
If you're concerned about safety, this is the place, as the door is on a buzzer at all times, and the desk is staffed 24 hours. Staff is quietly attentive, and speaks English. Convenient cafe and newstand just outside.

Our second time in Venice, we decided to stay a bit more central and the location of the hotel is excellent, being a very short walk from St Mark's square. Although so close to the square it is remarkably quiet, the staff are very courteous and the service was excellent. The hotel is typical in style to most in the area, and it took a while to find, but after noting a few landmarks we had no trouble and although the streets can be confusing at first, you soon become familiar with your surroundings. Venice is notorious for being expensive, but we found plenty of nearby restaurants that were reasonably priced with excellent food. Tea and coffee facilities would have been handy in the rooms, though. Don't miss the island of Burano and the Lido - well worth a visit.

We had booked a four night stay at Ca' del Campo through a travel agent and hoped it would be alright. From the start we were not disappointed. The layout of the hotel inside takes a bit of getting used to but I suspect this is true of many venetian buildings. There are a lot of steps inside but a lift means this is not a problem. The reception area was light and welcoming and part of a large open area on the first floor. To one side of this there was an area with comfortable chairs where one could sit and read. Breakfast was also served on this floor and was a generous buffet style breakfast. The room we had on the third floor was clean, comfortable and a good size. The en-suite was spotless and again of a reasonable size. There were plenty of towels provided and these were changed everyday.
The location was excellent. Tucked away, do take a map or instructions when finding it, but less than a five minute walk from St. Mark's Square and the waterfront. The main sights of Rialto and Accademia Bridge were a comfortable stroll away, perfect for an evening walk after a meal.
In normal circumstances we would have considered this a perfect holiday. A wonderful city, good weather, a comfortable hotel. The afternoon before we were due to fly home british airspace was closed. This was when we really appreciated what a gem the hotel was. We were able to stay on at the hotel and to cut a long story short our four night break became an eleven night stay. During this time the staff could not have been nicer. They made us feel welcome and coped with our day to day re. booking of the room efficiently. This was sometimes late in the day due to our uncertainty about returning home. They helped out in many small ways which helped us to cope with an uncertain situation. We have heard tales of other travellers being ripped off by people charging extra for basic services and needs and generally making out of the situation. Our experience in Venice and at Ca' del Campo could not have been better. There were frustrations. No one likes to be told they can't go home and we were both due back at work. However, thanks to this wonderful city and the staff at the hotel I can honestly say we have very good memories of our extended stay in Venice.
This is the first time I have written a review of a hotel and generally I hesitate to recommend a hotel to others as everyone has their own needs and expectations. In this case I feel it is the best way to thank the management and staff of the hotel for their friendly and professional help. If you are looking for a hotel in Venice in this price range do consider Ca' del Campo 511. If I return to Venice it is the first place I will try to book.
