“Perfect location, great staff!”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

The hotel is near enough to San Marco that getting to it in minutes is completely possible. Our room was clean and the best pillows we have found in Europe. The room has been rather quiet with ambient noise during peak times. Yes, the air conditioner works hard, when it is this hot & humid it does feel good, it is so worth it! Staff is the best part. Recommended sites, gave directions, spoke English and even held our bags after check out. Would stay again.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a private bath and found the extra few feet and ability to do some hand washing wo...

Hotel San Maurizio ticked all the boxes. It's in a great location, close to the vapiertto. The room was well kept, whilst not overly big, spacious enough, similar size to most other accommodation we've had in Europe. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Their English was fantastic which made things easier for us. They were happy to answer any questions and provide maps with tips on what to do.
Overall, very happy with this hotel.

It took a while to get to this hotel from Treviso airport, a shuttle bus (40 mins) then a water bus (Vaparetto) 45 minutes but then it was a short 3 minute walk from Gigilo. Once you're there the journey is worth while due to how central it is.

The hotel had a electrical gate, which made the venue feel secure (for 3 young girls travelling this was ideal). The staff were friendly and helpful.

The room was really nice, clean, colourful and better than expected. It gave an authentic 'venetian' experience. Although there wasn't any aircon. We were located in room 2 which was opposite the shared bathrooms. 3 people, 3 (very clean, one with a hairdryer) bathrooms... we were happy! The rooms are cleaned and the beds are made daily, which we didn't expect but we had no complaints.

No breakfast is included(sadly), which was a pain because it was hard to find somewhere to eat close by.

The location was spot on... close to everything and was a beautifully city! Recommend if you are travelling 2 days is more than enough time to explore everything.

We were two American backpackers passing through Venice. We found this place when looking for a hostel (unsuccessfully) for a while. The price was about $100 U.S. dollars per night for two twin sized beds. (Not stacked, though!) The place was very clean. The style was very venetian and we enjoyed the stay. The linens are a bit worn, but the beds are comfortable and the staff were all very helpful. The place is small and Venice is an amazing city so we can really recommend it. It was a bit expensive for our budget as backpackers, but it was nice to have a very clean, hot, functional shower with nice towels and EXCELLENT and FREE WiFI IN THE ROOM. If you visit Venice, you will see how hard that is to come by. Close to the water taxi and central to San Marco Square with the basilica, etc. Overall, it was a great experience and felt a bit like staying at a Grandma's house with a few extra comforts. You will not find a better deal in Venice. I am so happy we stumbled upon this place!

Stayed at this hotel in the end of May 2012 and did not like the stay. Admittedly, the location is excellent - quick walk to major attractions, but there's too many strikes against this place.

Most importantly, the air conditioner in our room was not powerful enough. Despite running the entire time, the room was like an oven and sleeping was difficult. I ended up taking several cold shovers in the middle of the night.

Also, this hotel is behind a locked gate behind an intercom. When we arrived first, no one was there to open the gate and we couldnt't get in. We decided to have lunch and come back later, and someone was there to open the door.

We had to catch a train early in the morning and when we wanted to check out, there was no one at the desk again. We waited and waited and finally heard some sounds in the distance and were able to hunt down the front desk guy, doing some other duties. They claim the front desk is 24 hours, but this is not true.

We stayed two nights in this hotel. It is in a really excellent location - in the busy San Marco area, and only a short walk from the water bus. The double room was pretty and spotlessly clean. The en suite bathroom was also spotless, modern and with a good shower and plenty of hot water. The hotel staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. Only downsides: no free wi-fi, and (as with everything in Venice) not great value for money. And we couldn't check in until after 2pm (although check-out is 10.30am).

My friend and I were recommeded this place by another friend and what a good find in all the confusion of such a large place like Venice. It's a 5min walk to Marco square on little side street. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful.

If you can stay in the hotel part as you get a private bathroom and the rooms are huge. The shared bathrooms in the residence werent that great.

Room Tip: Book in the hotel rather than the residence
