The first impression on the way to the hotel is that it's a bit off the beaten track - but that's just Venice! In fact the Duodo Palace is no more than a stones throw from La Fenice (opera house) and only 10 minutes from St Marks square.
The hotel is small, but perfectly formed. The rooms are large and well specified. All Venice properties have their "fronts" to the canals, so it's a little difficult getting your bearings, but get a room at the front and your window overlooks a canal with gondolas and other water trades sailing past! The view isn't exceptional in the usual sense, but it's very atmospheric.
Breakfast is in one of two small rooms and is continental in orientation, but there is plenty of it and the service is wonderful.
The Duodo Palace is a lovely hotel and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view

We spent a wonderful week exploring all that Venice had to offer. It was a fantstic time and a large part of that was our experience at the Duodo Palace. We stayed in a Canal side suite. The sound of gondoliers singing wafted up in the evening through or balcony door.
The staff was friendly and very fluent in english.
It is wonderfully located, central to Saint Marks Square, the Rialto and Accedemia bridges.

Room Tip: A canal side room is definately worth the extra that you pay for it.

DISGUSTING ROOM!!! Do not let the lobby fool you. It's the only appealing room in the hotel. This was our first stop in our visit to Italy. The hotel was rated 4 stars (we know European 4 stars and American 4 stars can be different) However, by anyone's standards this hotel was dirty and disgusting.

Upon entering our room, we noticed the carpet was filthy...not just dirty, but stained and dirty and the door barely cleared the bed. THE WORST, was when we went to put our passports in the safe and noticed that the carpeting was covering a hole in the floor. Yes, right in front of the safe was a 2x2 foot hole underneath the carpet. We complained to the manager about the carpeting and hole and he shrugged his shoulders, said he could show us another room but if it was the carpeting that was an issue, "well, that's just the way it is". If all that isn't enough to make you look elsewhere than perhaps the fact that the room was not serviced after our first night might change your mind. Yep, that's right...no clean towels, no made bed, no empty trash cans...NOTHING. When we returned to the room later that night and called the manager, he said the best he could do at that point was bring up some fresh towels.

Thankfully, we we're only in Venice for 2 nights and the remainder of our trip did not disappoint. If cleanliness is an issue, this is NOT the place for you.

Spent a weekend for our wedding anniversary at the hotel, looked after very well. Emailed ahead of our stay for a bottle of Prosseco to be in our room on arrival, no sooner had we booked in we had a nice cold bottle brought to our room. With our balcony over looking a quiet part of the canals and the hotel within a short walk to the main square one way and the restaurants just around the corner. A must if going to Venice.

A really great hotel, in all respects. We took a private water at taxi from the airport which stopped at the hotels own dock on the canal which meant no carrying of luggage. We were greeted and looked after by very helpful staff on the concierge desk and immediately given an upgrade to a beautiful canal facing room. The hotel is in a quiet back street but only minutes away from the main attractions and restaurants. Breakfast is served in two dining rooms and is varied and plentiful. There are numerous italian tv stations but if you search long enough you will find BBC, CNN etc. Overall we had a most enjoyable stay and would highly recommend the Duodo Palace.

Loved the hotel, the location was perfect, my previous post on the hotel in florence which was a total disappointment for the 4 stars it said was categorized at, this place really deserves it. the Staff was helpful, the breakfast excellent! they are upfront with their prizes, which is something the other hotel in florence lacked off. Free wi-fi. and closed to major attractions in venice. stayed there 5/8 - 8/8.

my fiance and i fell in love with this hotel! beautiful, comfortable, great service! the best part is that it's close to everything you need. the hotel is in a perfect location away in a little quiety street, which is hard to find in this part of Venice (san marco). we took the water taxi to san marco, then walked about 10 mins to our hotel. if it wasn't for the expensive price, i would've stayed longer. i strongly recommend!
