“Everything We Were Wanting”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

Locanda Barbarigo met all our expectations for our stay in Venice.
Close to all the main attractions / near a water bus stop / yet quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the City.
Good value / pleasant and cordial service even when you are arriving very late at night / large and very clean room / more than adequate breakfast.
Prompt and efficient responses to booking enquiries.
You can't ask for more - but obviously from some reviews when you are staying in one of the World's most amazing destinations access to an English television channel is important
We'll be back!!
PS - the Venice City Map they give you is a beauty. Just enough detail to enhance your wanderings around such an amazing City

We stayed at Locana Barbarigo, Venice, for 3 nights, July 2011, and found it charming. It is located right on a narrow canal, Fondamenta Duodo o Barbarigo, in San Marco, and very close to Giglio ferry stop on the Grande Canal. The area is surrounded by piazza and old churches, and hundreds of narrow cobble-stoned lanes, and plenty of restaurants. It is a wonderful place for exploring Venice by foot and by waterways. Locana Barbarigo is delightful, peaceful and pleasant; the staff very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is included in the tariff and the facilities are very good. We loved being there, being both close to so much activity and colour and dozens of fantastic sites but easily able to retreat to our quiet and pleasant rooms. We would love to return to Venice and to stay at Locana Barbarigo again.

In good conscience, I must advise my fellow travelers not to choose this hotel. The list of problems is long. In a nutshell, it is poorly managed and poorly maintained. The breakfast is not good and the hotel layout is difficult as many of the rooms open directly into the dining room. The bathroom shower was moldy. Yes, the location is central, but there are many hotels in the same vicinity that are much better choices.

We choose this hotal primarly to it's location, size and price and we where more than pleased. Especially with the service, Monika who is the manager was very serviceminde and gave us lots of usefull tips on what to see etc. This was our first time in Venice and the location of this hotel is perfect with walking distance to almost everything you want to see, yet it was quiet over night. The room was ok, small but charming. Breakfast was OK, Continental.

We chose this hotel primarily for the location. Its within walking distance of St Marks square (10 minutes) as well as the Rialto. Infact we explored all the districts on foot and always found a route to end back at the hotel. It took us about 15-20 minutes on foot to find the hotel from the boat drop off point at St Marks. Carrying cases over the bridges is tough but is the nature of the city.

So, the hotel itself, we checked in no problem. Our room was spacious and comfy with air conditioning. No tea making facilities but that was by the by. We had a free safe and plenty of wardrobe space. Breakfast was average, nothing cooked but tea/coffee, croissant, cereal etc in a nice dining room.

For the price and location this was definitely the perfect hotel for us. Venice is a very expensive place to visit; restaurants are expensive and wine/beer is very pricey. When looking for evening meals we tried places along the front, just down from St Marks and also in St Stephens square.

This is genuinely one of the best holidays we've ever had and the hotel was comfy and location great. We'd recommend visiting St Marks (obviously!), we also loved a Vivaldi recital near St Stephens square. There's loads to do and see....just walk and you'll find things!

This hotel wasn't what we expected from reviews and photos on other websites. When we arrived and went to check in we found a taped note to the door saying the registration closed at 2 p.m. and if we were later than that we had to go to another hotel to check in. So, after hauling our luggage through Venice and getting lost because of poor directions to the other hotel, we were finally able to check in. We then had to haul our luggage back to this hotel, and up flights of stairs. Because the owner of the hotel isn't on site past 2 p.m. we weren't able to get internet access or ask questions about the breakfast, etc. We were left to figure out things like the air conditioning on our own. The bed was okay, the room was quite sparse. The bathrooms were fairly large, but the hair dryer fell out of the wall and I wound up with scratches all down my back from the screws. The breakfast was just croissants and yogurt. We could also hear the people above us walking, and they walked alot - at 2 a.m. Their air conditioner was also so noisy we could hear it in our room. We wouldn't stay here again.
