I had read the other reviews that complained about the noise at night but decided it didn't matter as I always travel with ear plugs. Lucky me!! I think you need them. Our room was right next to a toilet and our bedheads were on the adjoining wall so it was a little noisy but, hey, who sleeps in when in Venice?? The stairs up to the rooms are very steep but the staff happily helped us with our luggage. It's a very tight squeeze for breakfast and the room can't hold all the guests at once, so if you have to be gone by a certain time, I recommend you get down there early. Great location, but be warned, it can be hard to find!!

Room Tip: Try and stay away from the rooms over the pub!

cute little b&b. a little hard to find, but using the maps we made it. it is next to the piazza where there are bars and lots of people making noise but that didn't seem to bother us at night. maybe because our room was farthest from the piazza. the rooms were nice and clean. b&b was your usual in Italy. location was ok. we used the waterbus if we got tired from all the walking. staff was very helpful and nice. overall, for the price and location i would highly recommend it.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Locanda Matir this past month and enjoyed our stay. It's in a good central location, is an easy walk to the termini, and is relatively easy to find. We were pleased with the staff (when they were there) and a surprisingly simple yet filling breakfast. The rooms were clean, the water was hot, and all in all, we had an excellent stay. Two things I should note however: It appears to have been mentioned in previous reviews, but the windows are poorly insulated and therefore let in a lot of nighttime noises. In our room, we were near a lively nighttime establishment that remained open until the early morning. Between the sound of music playing and the voices of their patrons, it was a difficult night for us. I will say that closing the outside shutters did make some difference, but not enough to help us sleep that night. Also, the courtyard that leads to the hotel's front door can have an overwhelming smell of urine. This is most likely due to the fact that the club/bar is nearby. I don't fault the Locanda Matir for this, but it was disconcerting nonetheless. Don't let these minor gripes turn you away though. It really is a good location and a great facility. Give them a try.

This B&B in Dorosduro is a very nice hotel to use when touring Venice. This section of Venice is away from the bustle of St Mark's square, but there is still plenty of activity and vibrancy. It is easy to get to the tourist sites by foot or Vaporetto. There are several restaurants close by. Try Pane Vino San Daniele. Excellent food, reasonably priced for Venice. The rooms of the hotel are up 2 flights so beware. Our room was decent size, clean and comfortable but the mattresses could use updating. Bathroom was small but adequate. Breakfast room is tiny, but cute. Gina does a great job serving up coffee and pastry with a smile. There was coffee, tea and water in a little mini fridge along with a few treats. As others have stated, the noise from the street was loud. If you could keep your window closed it was not too bad. There is AC. Great maid service. We felt very safe, however there does not appear to be any staff on site at night, but there is an emergency #. I would not hesitate to book here again. There is no pool or fitness center. I checked those by mistake and can not remove! Also, it is a very easy 10 minute walk from the bus station at Piazzale Roma, not much different from the vaporetto stop. Try to keep luggage at a minimum.

Room Tip: Room 201 looks into alley. Residents windows look out there as well, so watch your privacy!

Locanda Matir is a nice little place to stay on the west side of Venice. The hotel had big enough rooms for a family of three and good breakfast, with very nice personnel.

From the hotel the main areas of Venice are within walking distance (Rialto bridge, Santa Maria della Salute, Piazza San Marcos, etc) with plenty of restaurants in all directions. And if you are tired of walking at the end of the day you just hire a taxi boat for the way home. You may also use the water bus with a days pass and include a trip to Lido for snack while watching the sun set over Venice.

These things are easier to afford when staying a little away from the high priced center of Venice, with good service and good price at Locanda Matir. Recommended!
